Absinthe, anyone ever drink it? I wanna hear some other peoples' thoughts.
Me and a buncha friends got into it after watching the NIN video "The Perfect Drug" (yeah its that neon green drink in the music video) so anyways we do some website researching and order the ingredients to make from a source we found on the net. We followed the instructions and ended up with a dark green liquor. It tasted nasty, like pinetrees (or how you would imagine them tasting). Anyways here I am with half a bottle of it and desperately trying to find some cool mixers for it, best seems to be lemon juice - ok I'm rambling but here's what I wanna know:
-Ever drink it? If so how was it and how was it different from reg. liquor?
-What color was it?
-HOW did you drink it?
-Any good mixers you're aware of?
Oh and for those who don't know: Its a green drink that's pimped out by plant extracts. Many have claimed it has hallucinogenic properties, while also giving an odd "high."
PS: YES I went to EROWID for this, can't say there was much info tho.

Tried it once in czech republic. Forgotten exactly how the drink it there, you add sugar and set the drink on fire before drinking it.
Still tasted like shit tho.

absinthe is an alcoholic liquid (yeah, it's green) prepared from wormwood. the active ingredients are alcohol (of course) and thujone, a wackass little fused-ring bicyclic compound that is hallucinogenic (if i remember right) and also seems to erase your long-term memory.
somehow i remember *martha stewart* of all people talking about absinthe. with this guy. talking about green liquid and showing off his antique absinthe gear.
wack.

What ya gotta do is buy an ounce of wormwood from an online smart shop such as concious dreams. Then ya put this & one bottle of Pernod in a coffee strainer & strain it twice every day for one month. Separate the liquid from the junk. I recommend you pour a shot or two into the second half of you're pint but only after you've already had one as you need to be under the influence of alcohol to appreciate it's taste.

Yeah I know all that stuff, hell we made this shit ourselves with the wormwood and everything, but I wanna know if any of you out there have some cool experiences to share.

I had absinthe in new orleans last halloween. IT has a a strong flavour that many people will not like. They prepared it the traditional way, with the sugar cube and the water.. It wasn't that bad but i think it would be good in a white russion. .

Yeah it has a strong taste so you won't be having much. The changes in my perception have been rather subtle. People I have spoken to who have taken this in any quantity have only vomited.

Did you distill the wormwood/alcohol concoction yourself?
No? You probably didn't get the full effect. The leching method (where you soak wormwood in pernod, everclear, etc, run it through a coffee filter, whatever) doesn't work very well. Absinthe needs to be distilled *with* the wormwood for it to have much effect at all. Every true absinthe enthusiast's report says soaking wormwood is just asking to be bored.
Distilling alcohol is dangerous if you're not sure about what you're doing. Explosions and accidental poisonings are right at the top of the list.
Now that having been said, I've used the leching method, and it was interesting. It gave me a lightness of mind in combination with the drunkeness -- drink too much though, and you lose that levity (which is apparently more prevelant in the distilled version).

Yes, I drank it, in Portugal it's legal.
It's green.
I drink a lot some years ago... but now i don't enjoy it, it has a bad taste. It only put you drunk faster then other drinks.

So what do ya do. Just distilit to dryness? What if some of the active alkaloids have high bp's?

You distill it just as you would any alcohol. There's about a billion and one methods to do it -- try a search on absinthe using your favorite search engine, and you'll find scores. I haven't put the effort into it to even try for the distillation.
