I just recently stopped getting my menstrual cycle, does this mean I can't get pregnant? Or do I still release a fertile egg in my ovaries every month, and just not release blood? Does this mean that my body is not making enough estrogen?

In case the reason for absence of a period counts, I am 75% sure I stopped getting mine because drug use, and not because of low body fat or from being underweight (I still weigh in the triple digits).

What drugs are you doing? Excessive abuse of stuff like meth can cause periods to stop. However that does not mean you can't get pregnant, because you do not know that you aren't going to get your next period.

This sounds more like a Health Q&A so I'll kick it over there ->

ah okay, i was unsure as to which forum it'd go in.

The two drugs I do on a regular basis are ecstasy and meth; meth at least once every 1-2 weeks and E once a month. When I abused meth at age 16 I also stopped getting my period, but that was because I was also extremely underweight, 95 pounds or so.

You can still get pregnant. I take the pill because if i didnt I dont even get my period!! This didn't stop me from having my girl!! Means nothing. Basically if you've had it once you're a woman. ;)

I know that one symptom of anorexia (just to make it clear, I'm not implying you're anorexic, etc etc) is amenorrhea due to the starving. Are you under 85% of your ideal BMI? If so, this could the cause of your amenorrhea? Would you say you eat enough?

there are low dose hormone pills available. You take E and meth but gag at the thought of the contraceptive pill?? 8o

I used to take ortho-tri lo, the low dose hormone pill that was prescribed to me. It made me gain weight, but more importantly made me lose my libido completely. WTF is the point in taking BC pills if they make you not horny?

Depends on if you are overly concerned about pregnancy or not, I guess. Anyway, lack of period is also caused by stress, diet, lots of different things. Are you losing large amounts of sleep?
Have you had a pregnancy test? Is there a chance you could be pregnant NOW? It might not have anything to do with drug use but it wouldnt hurt to mention it to your dobtor, if youre comfortable enough to do that. I have had to spill the beans about my drug use to my GP, its nothing they havent heard before.

I haven't had sex since my last period months ago so it cannot be pregnancy. I've lost my period from meth use before, so I am almost certain that that is what the cause.

I don't know what BMI is. I am around 105 pounds at 5'5"

BMI is your Body Mass Index. It's a calculation that uses your height and weight to work out whether your weight is in correct proportion to your height.

BMI Categories:

* Underweight = <18.5
* Normal weight = 18.5-24.9
* Overweight = 25-29.9
* Obesity = BMI of 30 or greater

You have a BMI of 17.44 which as you can see is fairly underweight. Maybe malnourishment (possibly brought on by the meth?) could be the cause of your amenorrhea.

Either way, it could be a symptom of a problem that has yet to manifest itself in other ways. I think I'm shooting in the dark, maybe...8( My better judgement says get it checked out if you think anything is wrong or unusual.

How much does it cost for a doctor to check if you are fertile? I hope I'm not, it would save me a lot of grief.

^^ I can't remember the cost. Docs told me at the age of 16 that I would not be able to have children. Guess what? By age 18 I was pregnant! They are not always right =D

Always assume that no matter what they say, you CAN still get pregnant.

It's a pity to see someone without socialised medicine...:(

i dont understand this at all. go to a doctor! if you can afford meth and pills you can afford a doctor. sure you'll get a lecture about drug use but surely thats better than an unwanted child, especially if they're gonna be fucked up from your drug use!

also, just because you're told you cant have children or are on the pill doesnt mean you should avoid condoms- dont forget everyone's best friend the STD!
