Hey guys, first time poster here.. been def creepin around these forums for a minute though.. anyways..
So SWIM's been pondering this question for a while now. SWIM's tried researching to no avail, or SWIM wouldnt be poting for the first time. It's concerning heating and/or boiling your shots (for IV/IM use). SWIMs always heard mixed opinions on whether or not it is necessary to to do so, here's my thinking... SWIM knows from experience that black tar heron is best heated, simply due to the fact that the shit is pretty difficult to dissolve without the aid of a heat source. This really has nothing to do with this particular question though. SWIM enjoys IV opiates, cocaine and methamphetamine (and probably whatever else there may be out there, so long as its relatively safe) on occasion (used to be a full junk, currently a disciplined chipper (fingers crossed)), and has been wondering why there isn't really any broadly agreed upon answer to the question: to heat or not to heat..? Tar dissolution aside, SWIM's thinking was always that the reason one would boil a shot would be to kill any potential pathogens prior to injection. Now it seems (through internet research) that the typical "heat till boiling" or "5-10 sec boil" is not nearly adequate to actually have any effect on said pathogens (be them viral, bacterial, fungal, etc...). So if that's the case, is the only advantage of heating/boiling a shot to aid the dissolution of your given substance?
Also, SWIM always hears people say that cooking a meth shot will destroy some of the meth. A quick google says that MethHCl has a boiling point of 215 C (and obviously it boils prior to decomposition, or we wouldn't be able to "smoke" it without decomposing it). That is well above the boiling point of water, so if MethHCl was heated in aqueous solution to boiling (100 C), the meth certainly wouldn't decompose, and not only that, it wouldn't come close to evaporating/boiling, and being lost through that channel (boiling away in vapor). So why is it that everybody says that cooking a speed shot will destroy it?
The same idea applies to cocaine HCl (187 C BP), no way a spoonful of boiling coke-water could cause the coke itself to boil off (and be lost in vapor), and SWIM's not sure (SWIM knows freebase boils/vaporizes before decomp, and salts typically dont) but feels that any cocaine salt dissolved in water would likely not reach a point of molecular degradation at 100 C (h2o BP)... So why is it always advised against boiling a coke shot?
SWIM understands that there are potential hazards in cooking a spoonful of street drugs or crushed pills, such as different cuts/fillers/etc becoming dissolved into your solution that you would rather not bang (let alone precipitating out of solution upon cooling... as in, in your blood!). Water solubility rules are kind of wacky sometimes, but they make enough sense to understand this potential hazard, however I'm not even trying to get into that. Let's say were talking raw, unadulterated substances. Why do people think heating coke or speed for a shot will destroy some/all of it?
Also, SWIM could be wrong, but SWIM think heroin (Morph D.A., not that thats the particular chem thats commonly sold as heron, but for convo sake..) has an even higher MP, BP and decomp point... yet when cooking up a spoon, it seems the smell becomes more pronounced, as if some of the dope were indeed being lost in vapor. This doesn't make sense to swim, and swim thinks its just a more pronounced smell, not necessarily the dope literally leaving the spoon....
Anyways, sorry to ramble, that wasn't even my real question. SWIM want to know why people say cooking shots of substances whose thermal integrity surpasses that of 100 C, the BP of water (and therefore your shot)... If this just tweeker/junky nonsense, or is SWIM missing something? Does it have to do with the solution having different thermal properties than the raw substances?
Thanks in advance for the responses THAT ARE SUBSTANTIATED WITH REAL TALK. Please, SWIM don't need the beginner's guide to getting high, so no "boil this, dont boil that" type stuff.. I want to know WHY
Also, since SWIM knows this is bound to come up it may as well be added now.... as far as eliminating potential pathogens, is the most practical way though the use of a micron filter, or an adequate boil (and how long of a boil would be necessary?) Also, on a side note, has anybody considered using a bacteriostatic additive to make a sizable batch of pre-mixed/filtered solution with a substantial shelf life? SWIM wants to stop dicking around with spoons and cotton and go full "ampule" style... just draw and ka-blaww!
Any ideas, folks?
Also, do we have to use "SWIM"? shits a pain...
