Abilify for sleep?

So my psychiatrist has just switched me from risperidone to abilify for my sleeping problems. But i thought abilify was for bipolar.

So my question is could abilify help me with sleep?

She said it would help me out greatly and that we just have to find the right dose.

i havent tried the abilify yet as because i just got home from the appointment.

She said if this doesnt work than we are going to try seroquol.

but i dont want to get on seroquol because she said one of the side effects is wait gain and ive already gained weight from risperidone. i dont want to gain any more weight.

Abilify made me a little sleepy for the first week, the next 3 weeks were filled with hell. The sharpest pains to my legs you could imagine and non-stop movement.

I later found out the Abilify caused atrodystrophy and restless leg syndrome which both are permanent. I'm now on Requip and Percocets for the pain this damn medicine caused me. And it is listed as a side effect.

Tread carefully with Abilify...

ok so after the first week of abilify i had the sharpest pains in my knees and RLS. the doctor told me i have atrodystrophy as well but she thinks its caused by one of the other medications im on. but now i can barely get in and out of bed from the pain in my legs and when i do go to bed my legs will not stop moving.\

She put me on Cogentin but its not helping with the pain or the RLS like she said it was.

i dont know what to do with all this pain. any suggestion cause i dont think shell put me on any opiates as i used to take them from my dad and i have tried to kill my self with opiates and a bottle of bacardi.
im really scared that i will have this pain for the rest of my life and that i wont get prescribed anything that will truly help with the pain and the RLS

I know when my brother in law was on it for his "issues" all he wanted to do was sleep. He was pretty zombiefied. It was not rxed to him for sleep though.

You can be proactive about your treatment. If you absolutley do not want to go on seroquel then don't. The dr will more than understand your problem with that medication. Not to mention seroquel is not just rxed for sleep, there's a whole list of reasons you can look up as to why you wouldn't want to take it. Also I would not take abilify just for sleep. Have you considered a second opinion?

ETA: Perhaps your dr is getting a payday for scripting Abilify.

The last time we got a second opinion from my regular doctor one of the anti depressents he put me on was for adults and it got me really woozy and dizzy.
plus my psychiatrist is the best around where i live.

i dont mind what scripts she put me on as long as they help my restless leg syndrome an the shooting pain in my knees every moment of the day.

i dont mind if she puts me on seroquol as long as it knocks me out enought to where i acn get 3 hours of sleep. and all i know abilify gave me RLS and the shotting pains and it was suppose to help me slleep witch it doesnt and the RLS and the pain in my body/knees are permanent and she out me on another medicine for the RLS and the pain and its not helping at all and im pretty sure se wont prescribe me any real muscle relaxers or painkillers because of my past.

if youd like to know why i think she wont put me on muscle relaxer or painkillers private message me

Yeah it's not helping me at all. I just want something for the pain and somethi g that will actually help me fall asleep and stay asleep

its not AT ALL sedating... i was on it for a while for depression but it didn't work o do anything for that matter

I beg to differ, I was on it and it took a long ass time to kick in, like three hours.
Only after that three hours was I sleepy.

But every Anti-histamine and Anti-psychotic that affected acetylcholine receptors are so damn uncomfortable, I curse out every damn doctor who tries to give them to me:

Abili-what, bitch! Sero-what, ho! WTF? Trazadone? HELL NO! If benedryl sucks, WTF? Do you think promethazine will really work? You are fucking stupid Dr.!

You have a right to deny such bullshit in your life... That is all I have to say.

--- personally for me being rx'd ability for bipolar 2 - the first time I took it was at bedtime and I don't think I slept at all that night so I switched to mornings and still have trouble sleeping so I take an ambien at night. I never had trouble sleeping before really so maybe it's having opposite effect on me. However now that it's been a couple weeks on morning dosing I do notice feeling tired in the morning and wired at night so I'm considering trying night dosing again.. Idk I could just be worn out from my upper resp infection. I will tell you I have an increase in muscle spasms on this drug and i take flexiril for that bc the back spasms are painful and I think I have sciatica. I also experience constipation, gas, bloating still so i dont think its going away. My RLS which I have always had is somehow better and my house I cleaner than its ever been and I'm not pissed off all the time yay!
