You never think it's going to happen to you or to anyone you know.
I just wanted to share that my good friend, someone who frequented this site but didn't have a username, died on the 21st due to an accidental overdose. He went on a methadone binge and, despite his knowledge that the drug accumulates in his system, died on the 4th day of his binge. He never lowered his dose on subsequent days. He did not make the best decisions, as he was taking klonopin and drinking alcohol, because as he stated, "I have a tolerance to both so it isn't dangerous." He went to bed functional, but never woke up.
He was a bright kid. He was in medical school. He was 2 years away from getting his MD. And that's all been taken away from him.
I know that I was someone who always mixed opiates and other downers, because I never thought I would be one of those guys who took it too far, but if there's anything I've learned, it's that NO ONE is invincible to substances. Drugs don't discriminate.
I share this post in hopes that someone as arrogant as me has this hit home---I am going to reiterate, no one is invincible to drugs. I don't care about your tolerance. I don't care about how smart you are. Drugs can be your ultimate demise.
So please everyone, be careful. I don't want anyone to have to come home from class, go into their friend's room, and see a lifeless, stiff body with blue lips.
Please tread carefully, fellow bluelighters.
RIP Craig.
