You never think it's going to happen to you or to anyone you know.

I just wanted to share that my good friend, someone who frequented this site but didn't have a username, died on the 21st due to an accidental overdose. He went on a methadone binge and, despite his knowledge that the drug accumulates in his system, died on the 4th day of his binge. He never lowered his dose on subsequent days. He did not make the best decisions, as he was taking klonopin and drinking alcohol, because as he stated, "I have a tolerance to both so it isn't dangerous." He went to bed functional, but never woke up.

He was a bright kid. He was in medical school. He was 2 years away from getting his MD. And that's all been taken away from him.

I know that I was someone who always mixed opiates and other downers, because I never thought I would be one of those guys who took it too far, but if there's anything I've learned, it's that NO ONE is invincible to substances. Drugs don't discriminate.

I share this post in hopes that someone as arrogant as me has this hit home---I am going to reiterate, no one is invincible to drugs. I don't care about your tolerance. I don't care about how smart you are. Drugs can be your ultimate demise.

So please everyone, be careful. I don't want anyone to have to come home from class, go into their friend's room, and see a lifeless, stiff body with blue lips.

Please tread carefully, fellow bluelighters.

RIP Craig.

^^Me too, man..it's always sad, when a young soul leave this world:(..hope he's in heaven right now, may God rest his soul in peace..and you're right gaba, noone is invisible to drugs..be careful and safe always, fellas..

I am very sorry to hear, the deadly mix has taken three of my friends and almost claimed me a few times as well. Its all fun and games until someone doesn't wake up.

Reminds me so much of my friend Doug who lived at the shelter where I worked. Lots of people took illicit drugs and were always getting into trouble. Not Doug. He was perfectly happy taking his prescribed xanax bars. I will never forget a conversation we had about my pain mangement doctor giving me methadone and valium. He told me "You could have died from that." Doug got a check every month but chose to work a few days a week for extra spending money. Apparently one night, some people in his room were taking various unknown drugs. When security went in at 6 am for his wake up call, he was dead. It really shook me up.

Bad advice man, the whole point is people think they have tolerance to benzos and opiates so they can mix it in normal doses but one day their body isn't feeling it and it pushes them over. I know people are still going to mix dangerous combos but he's trying to say don't think your a pro, it can happen to anyone. As for me iv had my fun with drugs, i'm sober atm never thought i would be. Maybe in the future i might dabble again, but it's not worth the pain drugs put people through. The faster you learn that drugs are just borrowed emotions the faster you will want off them.

Inappropriate posts have been erased.

@GABAking, I offer my most sincere condolences for your loss. Tragic. Let this stand as a reminder that actions have consequences, mixing CNS depressants is lethal and dangerous.

Maybe post for him in the Bluelight Shrine.

Thanks for all your support guys. And thank you, Tricomb, for deleting the inappropriate posts. I (thankfully) didn't get a chance to read them. I don't see how anyone can joke about a 21 year old dying from an accidental overdose, but whatever floats your boat...

I never really find comfort in the internet, but I really think that this post has helped me. I've been surfing bluelight for years now but I have never run across the Bluelight Shrine. I think I'm gonna look into it.

I'm so sorry. Truly a terrible thing to hear about.

We all are playing with fire and all too often one of us gets burned. I truly believe if you can "get off" whilst just on one substance at a time, you're much better off for it. We all tend to push our combinations a bit too far here and there, and more often than not, that's what can and will do the next one of us in, heaven forbid.

My take home is to reduce the frequency and amount that I mix substances. Just isn't worth it.

I truly am terribly sorry and wish you strength in this sad time.

I'm glad you didn't.

Here's a link to our shrine, http://www.bluelight.ru/vb/forums/89-Bluelight-Shrine

I check it out everytime I need a reality check or am considering doing something reckless. A lot of people here in OD could benefit from doing the same thing I do before they decide to mix CNS depressants.

That's such a terrible shame, brings a tear to my eye.

I remember when I was addicted to poppy pods years back laying in the same position for too long and waking up with sore arms and legs from cut circulation but being too fucked to notice. It's a dangerous game I'm glad to be out of.

Sorry to hear that F1nished, ive had a few young friends and family members die from overdoses and its a very sad thing to have to watch your friends and family go through let alone your own greiving.

Just today and last night I had a pretty decent dose of valium and oxy together. Like many others I get a little cocky because I do have a tolerance but oneday things could go sour and its all over. I OD'd when I first got on methadone maintenaince and had a few too many xanax bars. I was on a dose smaller than the equivalent dose of H/Oxy that I was using previously, I think it was just that methadone seems to have a much stronger depressant effect on your body than most other ope's but at a lower dose. I have read that the most common combination to cause death in a recreational or daily user is methadone and xanax, this least in my country, im sure its different other places.

Be careful people, always start out small.

Jesus GABAking, what a post to log in and find this afternoon. Terrible news. Condolences to you on the loss of your friend in such circumstances. You have my sympathies.

It can't be reiterated enough. Even for someone with a tolerance doing their usual recreational dose, methadone with alcohol and / or benzos is a deadly mix with synergistic effects on CNS depression, and when daily dosing you must adjust dose to allow for the half-life and accumulation in the system. Dreadful that someone should loose their life to demonstrate just how deadly methadone can be if not treated with the appropriate respect. I hope it's noted.

^thank you. All I can hope for now is that his death wasn't without notice. I hope that all of his friends, family, myself, and anyone else that knows him learns from this unfortunate accident. Methadone is a beast that seems to be "more deadly" than other opiates due to its long half life. If you binge on methadone and add CNS depressants....well, the outcome can be bleak. Really bleak.

RIP Craig
