I know this is a broad question, but in your opinion when do you think it's officially "addiction"???
When is it a "problem"???
Obviously when it interferes with daily living, etc...
But I'm saying what if it's a smooth ride...
Daily living exists because of it....
Just lookin' for some opinions...
Peace.

Well an addiction is pretty easy to define.. physical addiction, and then mental. Physical is self explanatory.. mental is when you do something because you "think" that you need it. Many people I knew became addicted to weed. These guys wouldn't be able to go anywhere till they scored some weed. They wouldn't go to a party unless they were stoned or were going to get stoned there.
It is a problem when it causes problems for you.
It is only a problem to you if you make it a problem.. addiction doesn't just happen instantly.

Yeah but even if you arent fuckin up other peopl's lives, physical addiction still happens. For me it's like this: Do I get sick if I stop using? If so, I am addicted.

But its not really a problem unless that person cares that he is causing hell for other people.
I knew a few of those type of people.

When is it an addiction?
When you are:
Missing work
Not paying Bills
Worried about where the next sack's coming from
Lying to cover up use

This is exactly how I thought a lot of you would respond...
It's an addiction when you can't pay bills because of it?
No...
THEN it's a PROBLEM...
You can have a perfectly run life with no hiccups in the daily flow, no money issues and no withdrawal.
You lead your life as if nothing is out of the ordinary...
AND THAT is what makes me wonder, when is it a problem?
The question isn't about addiction...
It's about when to say enough is enough and/or work on the problem.
Peace.

It is a problem when it does negative "stuff"
I am assuming you mean when does it become a problem to you..
In that case it would depend on alot of things.. but mainly what you think..
If you dont think turning up in a dumpster everynight with cuts and bruises and a bottle of vodka next to you isnt a problem.. well then it's not a problem I suppose.

The above is a VERY GOOD article that covers many facets of addiction, dependence, abuse, etc...
When does addiction become a problem? IMO it becomes a problem when the addiction causes your life to suffer in other ways - ie unable to pay bills, failed relationships, etc... hell, by the typical and defined terms, some crazy people would say I am an opioid addict - but do I suffer? No, I am able to pay my bills, get my shit done, keep myselflooking clean and neat, etc... so what if I spend over $1,000 a month of narcotics? As long as that money isn't comming from places like my car insurance payments or other living expenses, I don't see it as a problem... in my honest opinion, I am happier now then I was before I EVER used drugs....

Personally I beleive that addiction is when the drug is controlling a person and not the person controlling a drug
