We walk a fine line between friendship and something more,
Balanced precariously upon that tight rope,
We lean in opposite directions,
Teetering away from the other’s desires.

Below, down there, I know it’s sink or swim,
And even if I swim I will be thrust upon the shore,
Half drowned and in need of resuscitation,
But never again the same,
Like the cherished boy in Cloud Street.

I often wonder if you share my prescience,
The thought that we’re living on borrowed time,
The knowledge that when you find someone,
I can’t be there,
And that if I find someone,
She won’t want you there.

Knowing I’m a defeatist,
Irrationally holding against all logic,
I grip the balancing pole,
And hope that you’re the one to fall.
We’ll find out I’m sure,
That some friendships are destined to fail,
Nothing escapes, determinism rules all.

Hey LP, I just read this again (sorry about the hangover.)

No girl is worth this much heartache. Trust me on that. I'm a girl. We're pretty evil. Even the good ones.
