Whenever I have smoked opium it has never been from a proper opium pipe (with a damper). I am about to acquire an antique opium pipe with a damper and I have some concerns.
I am under the impression that proper opium smoking does NOT involve sprinkling crumbled o into a pipe an applying a flame. That is bad, as it burns too quickly and probably is only half as effective as vaporizing.
How do you prepare the o for the pipe? Assume I have an oil lamp and a long pin too. Do I put a gob of opium onto the pin and heat it over a flame and then put it into the pipe, or do i heat the bowl and then place the o into the chamber?
A detailed account of how you guys smoke your o would be much appreciated. Thanks!
