Everyone knows Paxil the SSRI anti-depressant drug... with a nasty long list of side effects.. when I first took this drug (on prescription for anxiety) I never felt so ill in my life and swore never to take it again.

15 years later, I recently got my hands on some again and started taking it in very low doses and although the side effects are still there... I really actually like being on this drug... it almost has a recreational edge to it.. some say it's no good for libido and causes ED in men, but I find it sexually stimulating. The AD mood brightening effect is definitely nice and the drug sits nicely with opiates or bud for a euphoric uplifted feeling.. I find I sleep better on it too and have some interesting and often arousing dreams.

I know that euphoric feeling you get from it. But that feeling is short lived. It caused the sympathetic (fight or flight) to be shut down which cause the parasympathetic ( relaxation state)to take charge. This is why it's easy to become aroused and not ejaculate that easy. the euphoria is short lived on daily use and you will have w/d symptoms that are terrible. Be careful while using it on and off. It will do a number on your serotonin levels.

Thanks Zoey, I been trying to take it properly and ease into it..hence the low doses.. I just don't seem to tolerate this drug well even at half the recommended therapeutic dose (10mg). I have been stopping and starting it frequently and I was worried it might screw up serotonin levels. I take about 6mg now.

yeah paxil withdrawal was far worse then getting off oxy (weened down to 20 mg). i was sick for a month straight, brain zaps and vomiting HELL!

Paxil is one of the only ssri I can take. All the rest give me anxiety, confusion, n/v, I can't sleep, ect. Sometimes you have to find the right one. I have tried many. Maybe this one isn't right for you. Are you doing better on it?

I have yet to find a good anti depressant. Actually, I'm not sure if I will ever actually take them consistantly. Anti depressants really scare me. But, hey, if YOU found one that works for YOU, that's great. I know that anti depressants really help some people. I respect that. I just have never had any luck. Plus, I find that my Suboxone works as a mild anti depressant.

In some places bupe is actually used as a last ditch treatment for anxiety and depression (treatment resistant) disorders. I still think you might do well to give lexapro a try XTC ;) Could hurt, and might move your psych towards prescribing tramaol... but of course the decision is 110% yours. I just suggest this cause I know you suffer from some anxiety and myself, as well as other ex-heroin addicts I know, have found lexapro to work wonders in terms of PAWS. But, then again, it's not like I'm on it anymore and I obviously must have my reasons... :\ ;)

To all you up there, well, all I can say is luuuuuucky! I never, ever experience anything like the euphoria mentioned.

Zoey and the rest - Do you have experience with Lexapro? And what about SNRIs like effexor? I find the snri effect to be VERY helpful with treating opioid addiction and PAWS, but I've only experienced it from Tramadol (which is about the best thing short of agonist opioids to treat my depression, which has these days thankfully diminished to next to no symptoms) and NDMA receptor antagonists like DXM/Ket. Your thoughts?

I may consider trying it. Just because you suggested it ;) it would be amazing if it worked to alleviate my anxiety and depression. It still freaks me out, though. If it works, though, I would probably continue on with it :)

i find paxil works really well... just gotta make sure i take it in the morning so i dont wake up 10 times a night.
also, its incredibly hard to go off. you should either taper down extremely slowely or be in hospital when getting off it
