A New Currency

I'm 16. Lately I've been doing heavy research on currency and economics in my spare time. I find it absolutely fascinating how the Bauer Family (Rothschilds) have taken near absolute control of banking and money since the beginning of gold manufacturing.
However, especially in modern times and with the invention of the Federal Reserve, the owners of the country literally just make money come from thin air. Americans are enslaved in debt that was drawn out of nothing, having no backing whatsoever.
So I had this strange thought yesterday (I know it's weird but I write down all of my abstract thoughts as not to lose them). I remembered seeing a trailer for a movie where everyone was given a certain amount of time to live. They harnessed the time and used it as currency. For instance if you wanted to buy a hot dog, you'd pay the man 10 seconds or so. It was brilliant. I'll have to see it at a further point in time.
Since 1971, US Promisory Notes have not been backed by anything. They've become an idea of sorts: this amount will get you this much. This is how much this is WORTH. Inflation and deflation have been the juggling balls of our economy. It's sucks really.
So, back to the strange thought. What if we had a currency that had backing (one world currency perhaps). Say we took in a census. Then everyone who reported into the census (at least 16 if say) received 500 units or so. No matter what your position, race, anything. So Every Man were really equal. From then on, until we got rid of the dollar and used it for kindling, these units would be the new currency. You could amass a fortune through free enterprise and investment or crash and burn. Or it could be treated in a communistic setting (there's some hippies on here? Right?) Say no one could possibly have more than 20000 units. (Who would need that much, that's how tyranny goes!)
Just a thought. Obviously needs a lot more provisions which I hope you'll provide. Thank you!!
 
What would this currency be backed by?
The time thing sounds like a twilight zone movie.
We kinda aleady trade time for money.
Are you leaning towards a communist society?
Socialist maybe?
Capitalism seems to work pretty good imo.
Could be improved considerably tho.
Maybe you're the one to do it.
Maybe you could use puppy dog licks for currency.......

You could call them whatever it's hypothetical. The thing is since the federal reserve is a public-private entity, congress is the only entity that can cut off the connection. But this means congress would have to start coining money, backing it by something, and come up with a new value
 
Currency and human economy aren't real. They have nothing to do with nature. As long as we ignore real things like biodiversity, the biosphere, and the ways in which our fake economy is damaging the planet, we are doomed.

For currency to mean anything we have to start factoring in what were formerly referred to as 'externalities', because nothing is 'outside' of the system. We are part of this planet, not separate from it.

I believe in resource based currency, not more monopoly money.

Once modern humanity in general, and not just the intellects, realize that our survival is still tied to the biosphere and that we're not going to be able to start over somewhere else, the motivation would be our very sustenance.

Besides, as much as I loathe capitalism personally, it doesn't have to be removed from the equation; it simply has to integrate all the factors to be a more realistic system.

And Foreigner, if currency was used properly it's actually very useful.. What do you propose people use, then? A bartering system?

Did I say anywhere that we should get rid of currency?

I said our currency should be linked to things of actual value, like environmental resources. Gold is cool and all but it doesn't mean anything for human survival.

Gold is very important as an industrial metal. If we want to continue having nice things like electronics you gotta use gold.

Lots of good reasons to use gold as a currency, even if its the base currency that others (digital or paper) are pegged at. Nothing really beats gold, as it is a thousand year plus established market for currency, which means its big and fairly stable (despite the current interference upon the PM markets).

I like your idea OP, but it does raise a few questions. How would this be promoted to the already wealthy? You would need to convince them to put aside their wealth, something which I feel they may oppose somewhat :\ How would you bring about this change, if not at gunpoint?

Your first idea is exactly what capitalism is; amassing what you can through free enterprise. The secondary, more socialist-style regime would require force and violence to enact; at least, historically, that would appear to be correct.

It seems that you are saying that modern monetary systems are purely allegorical or symbolic, but your replacement currency is exactly the same, isn't it?

I'm not sure you understand how currency works.. not claiming i know the ins and outs but..

Example of things of actual value?

I think i was arguing a view point i don't truly believe because I'm an argumentative div..

We don't need a new currency, though.. We need to take control of the banks and the monetary system.. That's where the problem lies.

Ever been to jail. Everything is currency.

However, I can see the desire for currency to have an intrinsic value. During down economic times, you can just use your currency for whatever it's intrinsic value is, so it can only be devalued so much.

How about we take precious metals, and form them into flat round discs for easy storage. I'll call them, 'coins'.
Ofcourse, most countries stopped making silver coins for circulation, but nickels are still worth their weight in scrap.

My wife dragged me to something called "The Rainbow Gathering" about 7 years ago. It's a large gathering of hippies in a national forrest. (I actually had a good time,and went several times more, but that's not part of my story)

Anyway, I brought a bunch of money hoping to buy some real good acid. However, no one wanted to trade drugs for money. Everything was bartered for. They had a separate trail called 'Trading Circle' where people laid out what they had, and listed what they wanted. (Though, marijuana was pretty close to how we use $$ in real life)

It blew me away that no one wanted dollars. It was a concept I never even thought of. It was the first time I ever gave any real thought to how useless dollars really are.
