time to wake up in so many ways
since it seems that these days,
life is no longer the passion you feel
but the meaningless flag you raise

the color of skin and the grades in school
are still the standard for genius and fool
as we slip through the cracks in a shallow pool
of an outcast system in a public duel

we the believers
we the proud
we that stand up and love to get loud
we that have never adorned the shroud
of instructional burden from a maddening crowd

so recognize.
simple truths and complex lies
economic religion and political ties
mixed up thick to fool the eyes

i think it's time we realize...

how long have you walked in the wrong pair of shoes?
afraid of the unknown that you might lose,
but before you go hunting for greenback dues,
think long and hard on the path that you choose

when you're chasing a dollar and stealing a dime
remember to cash out just in time
cause you don't want to reach the end of the line
without a reward for your legal crimes

crimes of humanity
crimes of true love
criminal masterminds
in white satin gloves
and all the advice that they got from above

while the great thinkers of our time are born, grow, and mature invisibly,
caught in the middle of a system they were destined to misunderstand.
