A little on Coleus

(Yes this is my first non-intro post).

So last weekend, I was anticipating a long and fun weekend of pot. I told them also that I had Coleus, which they knew nothing about, but were intrigued by it (as am I) and told me to bring it along.
Anyway, along with a few different strains of MJ and some bowls of coleus and some tobacco, they start tripping out. I know them well, and they're VERY experienced marijuana users. They were all twacked out, making erratic movements and the like. They later told me that they had short "trips" and hallucinations.

I had some hallucinations myself, but it was later at night when I had them, a good 3-4 hours after I smoked some Coleus. Very interesting stuff.

So my question is, is there any information on the alkaloids of this plant? Has anyone else had a fun experience with Coleus + Cannabis?

never heard but it doesnt sound pleasant from what you write. Actually the more I think about it neither does cannabis (myself 8 years ago would have beat me up now for saying that).

Hmm, I probably should have noted that they didn't regard the experiences as unpleasant. At first, surprising, for sure. But after, they were very motivated to repeating the experience as was I. It was very interesting indeed.

Coleus the psychedelic mint plant? Did you grow it on your own?
Rumor has it the alkaloids are similar to that of salvia divornum... donno if there is anything to back that up, from reading erowid experience reports they don't sound anything alike.

Did you have the P-something type or the B-something type?

EDIT: i did a little research apparently the b-type (blumei) is now officially called "Solenostemon scutellarioides". They all changed names or something. The p-type is "Solenostemon pumilus".

They're not alkaloids (salvinorin A has no nitrogen in it's structure), but sesqiterpenes if I remember correctly. The active principal from Coleus is unidentified, but I have heard it referred to as a polyhydric alcohol. Grew loads once but couldn't bring myself to kill the plants as they are quite beautiful - the pleasure from just seeing them filling my back yard was enough!

yup, i've got a bunch in my porch...they're very nice looking. i am somewhat curious about them, though.

Well, thanks for the replies guys.
Does anyone have a link or two to some pharmacological information? Has there been any study on the isolated substances? Heh, I was wrong to call them alkaloids. Sesquiterpines then? That makes sense. Keep in mind that I'm a self-taught "pharmacologist."
Anyway I shoud look into it. But I don't posess the necessary equipment for proper isolation and study. >_>

Four compounds were isolated from Coleus carnosifolius. They were identified as betulic acid, betulin, oleanic acid and beta-sitosterol by spectral analysis and comparison with authentic samples.

I was in a gardening store, saw some coleus, and rolled myself a big fat plug of the leaves to masticate.

Within a few minutes I felt a little dizzy and a little good.

Well, my last method was picking off a few good sized leaves of Coleus Blumei, and drying them out via microwave. I packed a bowl with what I had the plant material was smoked.

Next preparation? Most likely the same, maybe put into a cigarette. HotButtaz seemed to notice effects with buccal absorption.

Not every compound likes to be heated up (think LSD). Smoking might not be an effective route

While agree with you fast, me (and my friends especially) did just fine by smoking it. I should try buccal absorption... but it probably tastes as bad or worse than Zacatechichi. Which is my response to your question as well, Swerz.

Coleus? Would this be the relatively common houseplant , frequently with a deliberately induced virus in the leaves to make it more 'interesting' aesthetically ?
