Hey. This is my first time posting in this forum. This is the only poem I have ever writen, so the structure probably isn't that great. I'm a bit reluctant to post it because it's very personal, but here it goes.....

Living in the shadows
Of what was expected
This is the outcome
Of a life neglected

Holding within
A pain you can’t comprehend
Sitting and waiting
For it to come to an end

I laugh and I smile
But inside I’m dieing
I’m so numb from the pain
I’m incapable of crying

Lost and drowning
In a sea of shame
The only way to find solace
Is by piercing my vein

You told me you loved me
That you did all you could
But your efforts have failed
Because you never understood

This pain that I live with
Is too much to bear
And when you gave up on me
The drugs are all that was there

Now I’m living in the shadows
Of what was expected
This is the outcome
Of a life that was neglected.

I liked this poem... the way you rounded in on the concept you started with (aka "of a life that was neglected"). Its good to be able to finish something with something you brought into the beginning of the piece... :)

Obviously not the best of topics, but sometimes emotions are very prevailent in poetry and words... and are more touching. Keep writing... dont stop at one :)

Everyone's been through that part at some point in their lives, but you've put it to expressed it perfectly.

Thank you for sharing this with us - it's a very beautiful piece.
