Bluelighter
i once saw a tree on a town square
still green but ready to blush
its foliage clinging to mother's hands
blissfully unaware that it is going to fly
its bark embracing the slender stem
thick and rugged it counts the rings
its branches reaching for sunlight
are bright with roughened late summer leaves
its roots under the layers of asphalt
try to make me believe that it is all going to last
i laugh at the notion
..but there will be flowers
