A handul of questions regarding dihydrocodeine

Hi all,
Long-time lurker, first-time poster. I have a few questions regarding dihydrocodeine. Namely, does it have a ceiling effect associated with it? To what extent does it cause respiratory depression? At all? In the case of large doses, would its potential lethality pertain to that respiratory depression or would countering the extent of induced histamine release be of primary concern in taking particularly large doses safely?

I ask because I intend to venture beyond my usual 400mg or so per hit and I'd like to have some idea what I'm getting into.

If you could help me in answering any of them, I would be most grateful. After extensive searching, I've either been unable to find satisfactory answers or those that I have found have been contradictory.

Thanks!

Hey chymist, welcome to Bluelight!

In regards to your questions:
Dihydrocodeine does not have a ceiling effect like codeine does. As far as "to what extent does it cause respiratory depression", well, that depends on many factors, the biggest one being opiate tolerance. All opiates can cause respiratory depression if taken at a high enough dosage or with other depressants such as alcohol, benzodiazepines, barbiturates and others.

I ask because I intend to venture beyond my usual 400mg or so per hit and I'd like to have some idea what I'm getting into.

Dihydrocodeine is similar to codeine in its dosages. If you're comfortable with 400mg and want to go farther up, do so carefully. Unfortunately, I have no firsthand experience with dihydrocodeine (it's not very popular where I'm located), so I'm going to let some posters with more firsthand experience chime in here for ya. :)

NT, great advise. But I want to chime in here.

Dihydrocodeine, like all other opioids will cause respiratory depression. It is 2x as potent as codeine is, but since you already have experience with it and have taken up to 400 mg of DHC, I wouldn't worry too much about respiratory depression unless you are doubling your dose. I don't recommend you double your dose (so don't take 800 mg, not even 700 mg). Like codeine, DHC can cause adverse effects in big doses. For example, severe histamine release (you will be so itchy, it will be unbearable - I've experienced it, but with codeine not DHC). You'll have severe nausea and vomiting. When you get to doses like that, the chances of adverse effects (unwanted effects) become more common. It would be a very horrible experience, so it would be the opposite of what you are looking for.

Sooo...I suggest you up your dose by maybe 150 mg (so 550 mg). Take an antihistamine with it, something like diphenhydramine works best, plus it potentiates your high.

^DHC will leave trace amounts of dihydromorphine in your system..

no idea if that'll show up on a normal drug test...

I talk with a bloke who's taken 1.2g of DHC as an opiate maintenance so its fairly safe even way up at those doses.

It doesnt suffer the same severity of itchy side effects as codiene, the main thing i noticed was a kind of aching in the legs as you start coming down.. i think thats something to do with blood pressure but idk.:o
