A good law school major

Anyone else trying to get into law school? THat's what my family wants me to do, but I for the life of me cannot figure out what major i should choose!

Other guys who are already in law school tell me that being a philosophy major is the way to go and that it will really really help you get in. But there's a lingering thought that haunts me..."what if i major in philosophy and still don't get in?" I mean what in the hell could I possibly do then? I want a major that will help me get in, but will also help me find a good job if the whole lawyering thing doesn't work out.

Any advice at all is appreciated!
 
I disagree w/ the philosophy approach. First consider what type of law you wish to practice but generally a business degree may best prepare you for law school. More specifically you can major in accounting or finance which in most curriculums will expose you to two business law classes that will give you a very good sense of what law school will be like. Good luck.

Major in what ever it is you enjoy. It will show itself in the marks you pull, which will make it easier to get into law school. As long as you have solid study habits and a good work ethic it really shouldn't matter what undergraduate degree you have.
 
^Agreed, I have a good friend that graduated with his J.D. from SMU and took History as his major. Now in addition to his law practice he teaches part time at the local junior college.
 
personally i would go with an economics, business or engineering degree. same as i would if i wasnt planning on going to law school. it really depends on what you are interested in though. if i was going to go into law, i would make sure i was going into a specialized field where i would make more money and deal with topics that i found interesting. Imo getting a philosophy degree sounds like a good way to end up handling divorces or something like that:p

go with a degree that interests you and has possible technical applications later on *if* you end up getting your law degree.
 
major in something that interests you. thats all that matters. law school is not predicated on any major, and it really doesnt matter what you majored in once youre there.
