"A Ghost Of My Childhood"

I rarely do this
But somehow, I thought of you today
From someone's own experience
Made me think about our good ol' days
The way you would lift me up and carry me around
The way you'd love my laughter even though she didn't enjoy the sound
Even the things you would do were so up lifting
I believe I got that from you
Not having a care for the world and just living for the moment
That's how I remembered you
Being so loving and caring
I wish you were there when I was younger and told me everything was just fine
Those moments were I found myself alone in the corner of my room
Jotting down what I felt
Ranging from loneliness and sadness
To the point where I wanted to escape from everything
To the moment's where I cried out for you but knew you couldn't hear me
I wish you could have waited longer
Before you decided to go
Before they took you away from me
You should have fought, could have just been two more years
So I could have given you the last hug
Given you the last kiss
Given you the first 'I Love You' that I hadn't said in over 10 years
I love you still, even though you weren't there for most of the growth
With my first kiss
To the my first heartache
To the first time I decided to give it all away
When I finally grew up and knew I wasn't a child anymore
But a woman, all grown up without you
I still feel you lingering around, even with those swirling color beams
I knew you were there
The ghost of my childhood
But the closest I've ever felt to you in a long time.
