A Funny(?) Occurrence

Today at work my cubemate remarked

"I'm so glad to get this job... You know, I've been unemployed the past three months, and you know how it feels when you like, don't have your purpose?"

--> We're doing data entry

 

Ouch. That's more sad than funny. Sure, it sucks being unemployed and all, but I can't imagine considering anyone's purpose in life being data entry. It's a decent job, but that's it.

Believe it or not, a few days later my old man made the same comment, except he said that it must be nice for me to have a purpose again.

I interpreted it in an almost deep way, instead of anger I feel some wonder at how different we all are, that one of the people most similar to me on this planet could say something like that.
