A funny kind of Cupid dressed in shirts and flarey trousers
Came to me and pointed out the truth that I ignored
He said 'why do you keep lying, if only to keep trying,
To hide the truth away from that poor boy that you adore?'
And so I grew some testes of the biggest strongest kind,
With all the strength that I could muster so I'd get the truth out faster
And I went ahead and typed it and I swallowed and pressed enter
Thinking 'well, if my poor heart breaks I'll just seal it up with plaster.'
It's a myth that love spontaneously grows just like a Triffid,
No - it creeps like ivy over your foundations and your core;
You're jealous when you see the photos of the countless exes
And wondering just why you've never noticed it before.

I said 'I kinda like you' and I lit a cigarette
Knowing he would crack a joke to dissipate the stew
A minute later when the joke had faded like a lightning bolt,
He went ahead, pressed enter, said 'I kinda like you too.'

A poem about this evening.
By me.
