I don't know if most of you know this, but you can get a pretty good, free, healthy high from running. I experienced it 2 years ago while i was on a 4 mile run, as soon as I got home and took and got out of a shower, I had this pretty decent buzz. Since your body experiences slight pains while running, the natural endorphins kick in to numb it up, hence giving you the runners high. Anybody else heard or have had this?

Yes, it is well documented. In fact some extreme cases seem to indicate actual opiate addiction can occur during via this process (runners, who despite being advised of serious fatal problems if they concnued their activity) were nevertheless unable to give it up. Back up evidence the the attentuation of subjective liking score by naloxone.
Bah, and opiate high is an opiate high. Runnder high can be pleasant but hardly matches a good bag of h. The primary beifit is to make exercise not entierly painful and thus encourage peopel to engage in the activity.
Not really sure what he question was though.
Runners high is a drug only in the same way dating is a drug. You make deicsions which in tern cause neurochemical grain changes which couse you to feel good. If runners high is really a drug.
Personally I am of the believe that his natural vs. unnatural high is completly bogus.

Hell strychine will give you a 'legal' high. What about huffin gasoline or duster...suphocations/CO posiiong works well too.It just isn't pleasant.
Those unfortunate ones of us who don't get the runners high are just fucked on the excercise front.

I have a pretty big lawn to mow every week. Well after usually an hour session of good precise mowing the mower will run out of gas. When the vibrations stop and i start to walk to my garage, the world starts moving in different directions and my whole body is basically buzzing. THis usually only last a matter of minutes but its pretty intense and it always makes me smile when it happens. If there was a drug that could make this affect longer i would be doing it everyday. Anyway theres my 2 cents and i better see alot more people outside mowing tomorrow.

Shooting heroin or doing a line of coke works the same way. Instead of running or dating , you're introducing a drug into your body. It's then the chemicals in your brain, in reaction to the drug, that cause you to feel different. If only we could all manipulate our brain chemistry at will :)

Actually, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette health section printed an article last week with interviews with doctors that said "Runner's High" doesn't really physiologically exist. Check www.post-gazette.com in the health section...

Do you really want me to dig up the citations showing endrogenous opiates ar rekeased during excercise. I believe the njoyment was even attenuated by naloxone.
Did these doctors do any controlled study or just pull this out of thier ass?

Yo Phreex I too have the, "Exective Parking," Place card. God I love that fucking thing. I will need to find another shady doc to renew when it runs out in 2004. All my boys hate me for having it. It's like there is always a spot saved for more right out front wherever I want to go...

I'm a very heavy weed smoker and I run about 2 miles everyday with a great deal of breathing difficulty. I notice that as I'm done running I feel really stoned.

for sure, the highs of everything are entirely different. i wish people would stop comparing apples to oranges.

Yeah, me mates and I used to get wacked before footy training. We'd train and everytime we'd stop from doing a drill I'd feel so unbelievably stoned, with my head spinning and me gasping for breath, hands on my knees.
Come to think of it, it was probably something to do with my lungs and a lack of oxygen to the brain...

hum...I have started smoking weed more lately--and running a lot less...perhaps I have traded one high in for another?
weed=lazy
