The other day I dreamt of you,
A tumultuous and waking dream;
A place that’s only halfway through
The gates of slumber, and it seemed
So real to me I cried aloud,
And woke with tears upon my face;
The sheets all twisted in a shroud,
A dark an unfamiliar place.
I try to cast your ghost away,
Sweep out the corners of my heart;
But pieces always seem to stay,
I can’t let go in whole or part.
Your face always comes back to haunt
My dreams, unguarded in the night,
It seems no matter what I want,
Your darkness always shadows light.
Why do I want you so badly when
I know you’ll never be mine again.
