A court ordered a heroin addict to quit all drugs. Here's why that cost him his life.

I keep hearing people say this, and it's bullshit. Methadone makes me feel like I'm living in a magical fantasy world in which everything is a bed. It makes me feel so happy I start to spontaneously sing out loud even among strangers. It's like a continuous internal heated massage.

I could say it affects me in a similar manner, only milder, but the point is that (in my opinion) you're absolutely correct with respect to official claims by "experts" that it doesn't produce a high. Because it's obvious that being honest about it by admitting that it can definitely induce a high at typically prescribed doses is politically incorrect.

Political correctness has unfortunately, for many decades now, influenced critical decisions regarding the war on (a minority group of individuals who - for whatever reasons - prefer) drugs (other than Alcohol and/or Nicotine). And as a consequence, an untold number of non-violent, otherwise law abiding men and women have had their lives completely ruined - not by the drugs themselves, but rather, by exploitative, parasitic, family-destroying law enforcement agencies such as the DEA (whose agents should be tried for war crimes), but I digress.

Your so fucking right that it hurts. Its morally convenient to say methadone doesn't have a high because god forbid those fucking junkies feel good. Even the people on our side are against us. Methadone does cause a slight high. Everybody panic now!

"Drug courts" are a joke. It still involves using the coercive power of the state against individuals for whom that coercion is entirely unwarranted, i.e. drug users.

If I recall correctly, in drug court you plead guilty to the maximum charge, and maximum penalty for the "privilege" to be on this program. Most that I know that were on drug court ended up failing and having to do the maximum penalty, fines and jailtime, for relatively minor infractions.

There are a few countries that offer heroin maintenance programs that have proven that it is successful in quite a few cases.

IMO if you go to jail, or on drug court, they should not mess with your meds. You should be able to continue maintenance drugs, as well as prescribed narcotics. Drug court should just be rehabilitation for criminals that have no need to be locked up...ie. non violent drug offenders.

This sickens me. I hate grandstanding judges that take a harsh approach to drug users. Most already have tough lives, why make it tougher and more expensive.

Drug Court is great for people who just got caught smoking pot and don't have a real addiction issue. Its terrible for drug addicts because its way too punitive. It especially bad for opiates users because you cant be on maintenance meds and we all know how low the success rates are even with rehab. I know the drug court program in my county is notoriously draconian. I would only do it if I was facing multiple years in prison.

I wouldn't do it if I was facing multiple years. If you fail, which as we both know chances are as an addict you will. Just being pulled over with someone that has a little pot in their pocket gets you a sanction...a needle cap in your car you missed while you were cleaning will get you sanctioned.

If you get sanctioned you are doing the max ammount of time with no possibility of parole. At least if you take the time outright you don't have to pay the exorbitant price monthly to be on drug court and you have a chance of getting out before two years
