Sight, I'll clear the ambiguity. The misconception is that if 2 liquids don't mix and form 2 phases, that they don't dissolve into each-other and that the 2 can be separated through liquid-liquid extraction back into the 2 original liquids. Wrong. If you add 50mL of ether into 1L of water, AT FIRST it forms 2 phases but if you shake it thoroughly for a while, it disolves into the water completely. The 2 phases remain only when the water is saturated in ether.
