Update 2: Insurance approved the Prior Auth and I picked up Qelbree today!! I also started it today as well!!

Update: For the Rx for Qelbree and we are seeing if insurance will pay for it!!

Ok, so I have a few days more than 90 days clean from Vyvanse!!

IDK what to say about that tho bc I have a Doctor Appt tomorrow where my Doctor said I could possibly go back on ADHD meds…

I want Qelbree tho, which is a non-stimulant…

IDK what I will do if she offers stimulants, like IDK if I will be strong enough to say no (I said I wanted to not take them anymore to her but didn’t tell her I was recreationally using them).

Hi, that's amazing, not many people can recognize substance abuse or care to do anything about it.

Have you thought of the core reasons behind why you got clean?
How do you think those reasons would resonate with your doctor?

Basically it was no longer enjoyable and it was causing too many problems in my personal life.

IDK about telling my Doctor about misusing my ADHD meds tho.

I got clean on my own so yea, this is my first time posting about it!!

Hm, that's a valid concern. I told my psych I abused wellbutrin, later found out I may have ADHD, and was told I couldn't have Straterra.

Is there a way to tell her why you would prefer Qelbree without over sharing things that would make her concerned?

Because at the end of the day what you've accomplished is very difficult and having some doctor who listens to you for 1 hour every week mess that up would be horrible

If Qelbree is what you truly want then please have the courage to ask for it.

You've already made it 90+ days and there's no telling how far you can go from here. It won't be easy but you can have a stimulant-free life if you truly want one. It will probably be a struggle but ultimately you may find a greater satisfaction without them.

I (sort of) understand what you're going through. I trip out on DXM (Dextromethorphan) sometimes. One of the effects it has is huge euphoria and anti-depressant effects. There's a medication called Auvelity that treats depression and combines medical grade DXM with another drug. I've been struggling with whether to ask my psychiatrist to put me on it.

I hope it works out well for both of us.

Well I told her part of things, like that Vyvanse was making me paranoid…so she knows I want Qelbree already.

I just hope she doesn’t push stims.

I’ve am on Auvelity, it helps a lot!!

It’s also fast acting as well!!

Just make sure your insurance covers it!!

If not, you could just say vivanse was too much stimulation for you. Paranoid might make her want to give you an additional med to counter paranoia f she's someone who likes to hand out meds like candy.

Are you worried she would discontinue them all together if you were fully honest?
She might, idk for sure tho…

I already said it caused too much paranoia, I have a Schizophrenia diagnosis already but she didn’t up my meds…

Hm.

What if you did some research @Katanya about Qelbree and other non stimulant ADHD meds so that if she were to try arguing with you about why not Qelbree or why another stim may not cause paranoia, you have some more information about what exactly it is you want and why, about multiple drugs in case she shoots down your suggestions.

Because technically, you could just walk out and have nothing.

So she should be happy that you even want to be prescribed something at all - I don't think she'd fight you for very long if you were persistent about wanting a non stimulant med and had a couple reasons why, and a couple alternatives.

Thank you for this! It would help if there was more online dialogue about prescription drugs and which are covered, etc. Unfortunately it's the information super highway and not the information super library. I wish there were more discussions like this online, or even in person.

Lets celebrate !! You ARE GREAT, What is next? And to think it couldn't be done, You Showed everyone including yourself!!

Just took my first dose of Qelbree 100 mg today!!

The recommended dose is 600 mg but I think for me going up slow is best since I have Schizoaffective Disorder (Depressive Type) as well as ADHD!!

I know that it takes 6 weeks to reach full effect, but I can kinda feel some effect right now, and I did some research and I am not the only one who has felt effects sooner than 6 weeks…or maybe it’s just me being excited about the new med, IDK…

I am hoping it works and that I have found a treatment for ADHD that is non-addictive and doesn’t make me paranoid!!

Well done on the 90 days!

What worked and didn't work for you? are there things you've learnt that you're going to take forward personally?

I am hoping it works and that I have found a treatment for ADHD that is non-addictive and doesn’t make me paranoid!!
best of luck!
