Hydromorphone wd's should be relatively short due to short half-life of the particular opioid, and the fact that IV can cause or seem to cause shorter duration of action as one becomes wrapped up in the rush. Nevertheless, it is a large opiate habit, and opiate wd's are not at all pleasant. You say you have Xanax, and are hesitant to use it for these wd's, but if it is for a few days, I would say use it. I don't know how much you take, or if you take it daily, but if you can I might increase the dose, and the time in between doses so that you are provided with a higher level of more consistent comfort. For sleep, I would take an even higher dose than during the day. But, there are other drugs out there to help you. Loperamide is great for opiate wd's, and can be bought, in the US, OTC under the brand name Imodium. It will help heaps with physical symptoms. Diphenhydramine (Benadryl) can also help, especially with sleep and nausea during wd's. NSAID's such as ibuprofen and naproxen are over the counter, and can help, to an extent, with the aches and pains. Clonidine (Catapres) can also really help, in almost every area of opiate wd's, especially with relief of anxiety/restlessness and insomnia, and can help heaps with the hot flashes and cold sweats. Also, take lots of hot baths or showers, though baths are preferable IMO. Even letting your feet dip in warm/hot water can be of great help with cold sweats and the like. Some people claim exercise can be very helpful, and it can due to the release of endorphins it causes. You will likely be more easily sexually aroused, and so masturbation and orgasm can help, even if just for a little, with some of the discomfort of wd's. Hope this helps some.
