Police bust $70m ecstasy oil smuggling ring

Police have arrested three Sydney men after they were found hiding a banned precursor substance that could have been used to produce more than $70 million worth of ecstasy.

The joint investigation between Federal Police and Customs found the men were concealing more than 2,800 litres of safrole oil in hair and cleaning products in tanks from China.

The oil was intercepted in three shipments that arrived at Sydney's Port Botany between April and August.

Police say the bust deals a killer blow to a highly organised crime syndicate.

The three Australians were arrested during an operation involving more than 50 police officers in Sydney this morning.

They have been charged over the seizures and are due to front court tomorrow.

"This is a significant blow," Federal Police Assistant Commissioner Kevin Zuccato said.

"As far as I'm concerned, [this is] a lethal blow to this particular syndicate.

"When you look at the quantity, there was no backyard lab - this was a sophisticated super lab."

That's fucking terrible, what a waste :( All this means is more shitty and potentially dangerous dirty pills on the market, and as usual the ones who really lose out are the punters.
 
well that fucking sucks, look forward to seeing more dangerous adulterated pills in the scene, why can't they bust the bloody pipe labs and pipe importers?

can more than likely see another drought coming very shortly. just hope they managed to get massive ammounts through keep it in supply for a while.

There was a huge pipes bust in SA about a week ago. Shit loads of pipe oil and stuff got busted.

even with good pills back, a lot of my friends are already too addicted to the pipe and isn't even bother making the change back to MD :(

In the scheme of things, $70 million is nothing in the drugs trade, even for a small country like Aus. Who knows what else got through while the AFP were concentrating on this bust.

For all I (/we) know, it was a decoy and we're in for a summer of love...

I read somewhere that European cooks can do this. Not sure about Australia.
 
^ Probably. I wonder if this is a record bust for this year tho? Hard to compare it since it is just the oil. And the bullshit amounts in $ form they come up with.
