I got a friend with a ton valiums, but there like 5 years over the expiration date. My question is are they still safe to take? Are they any less potent? There were stored in a pill bottle, probably in a desk or drawer of some type if that makes any difference.

they may have lost some potency, but they will not have turned into anything dangerous. they are probably 80-100% as strong as originally, so I would stick to a normal dose (5 or 10 mg) since there is no way to know.

That said, this is a very basic discussion, so I am going to send you over to BDD since you will probably get more responses.

BDD mods, feel free to send this back if you feel it is better here.

^ That pretty much answers your question entirely. I've taken benzos and opiates older than 5 years with no ill effects whatsoever, but don't always assume expired drugs are safe, check to make sure first.

There was a guy on this site that shot up a Morphine pill from WW2. It was his grandfathers & it was found in a pouch along with a needle. The guy said it was one of the best highs he ever encountered.

I would say you are safe by taking the 5 year old Valiums. If pills are stored in a dark & dry place, they can last a very long time.

The only drugs i know of personally that can be harmful if consumed past there use by date are some Tetracyclines.
