5x5's What's proper. What's not.

thanks for the tips, guys. I reduced the weight on my deadlifts and am practicing form by using the Smith Machine for my squats
next week i'm losing the Smith Machine in order to get the ful benefits from barbell squats alone

Along the lines of squats though... i see folks with two different stances. One stance is with feet directly underneath the shoulders and the other is with one leg placed further behind the other. I feel more stability with the second stance but feel like its cheating myself. Is there really a difference between the two in respects to muscle groups and maximized gains?

the best 5x5 i've done was a modified version from the late ironaddict,Wes Silveria.it incorporates WSBB tactics such as ME/RE days, assistance work,3board bench work.it got my base size up faster than most other forms i tried.now that i'm on the 5/3/1 i've broken every PR i've ever set before.1rm's are now working sets but only because of the 5x5 i did last year to prep me for this one.checkout ironaddicts.com.if i can i'll look into my files and download it on here so you can get the gist of it if you need...

I started doing squats and deadlifts. Actually, tonight was my first time doing deadlifts.

I started with 5 reps of 225lbs. I could do it but there was no way I could do another 4 sets at that weight so knocked it down to 205lbs.

MAN.. i would not be doing 5x5 for your first time on deadlifts and squats... i think you should be doing higher repetitions until your back is strong.. you will do yourself an injury.. why are people in such a hurry to hurt themselves??
