In the most simple terms what does this actually mean?

What part of the brain does it have an impact upon, what would the effects be on the human body etc etc?........

At a glance they seem to be a serotonin receptor subtype. As for the body systems it affects,they're are located all over the CNS so there's probably going to be a large list of processes it can affect.

most classical psychedelics (LSD, shrooms, ect) act by agonizing the 5HT-2a receptors.

by rc's i guess you mean like 2c-i and 2c-e which both act as agonists on 5HT-2A

In the very simplest layman's terms, 5-ht2a is the receptor that is associated with psychedelic "visuals" and sensory distortions.

It does a lot of other things too, but that is the function most people are concerned with on this board.

This video of a presentation by david nichols has some pretty in depth information on why agonizing the 5-ht2a receptor produces psychedelic effects. Its a bit technical at times, but damn interesting nonetheless.
