50 years of friendship, down he toilets

Went with it - they thought they could convict. They could not. On the DAY of the trial, the CPS offered no evidence.

I think nobody at the CPS compared the statements with the CCTV evidence.

I had made official complains about my treatment by the desk sergeant - who I note is now just a constable, so I suspect it was his revenge. But a decade later, he's still on the beat in this town. I ruined his career.

It would have been a 'proportional response' so no, it would not be manslaughter. We ARE allowed to defend our own lives. If you 'copped out on your nuthouse record' (paraphrasing Bill) and brought in the other factors, such as physical disability, no jury would convict.

I WAS charged with GBH after a guy attacked me and found out how strong the arms of a man who has been on crutches for decades really get. On CCTV he grabbed my crutches and threw them away! So how come were their charges? He had a heart attack and almost died.

But I wouldn't even recognise the guy and don't hate him. After all, it was he who got beaten up by a cripple and then ended up in the ICU. The police just told me not to visit. So I sent flowers... No message, no threats.

Just try not to be bitter. Staying angry will harm you, not him.

Living a happy life is the best revenge.
who tries to fight a guy on crutches lol Jesus

No you didn't actually do anything wrong. Just because you thought about doing it while being emotionally distressed doesn't mean you're a murderer or a super violent person.

It does seem like you need something though, but I don't know whether that would be therapy, a friend, going on vacation, changing something about your life or just a bit of time...

Errr... another guy on crutches?

I've never seen it, but I know if you fill an aluminium crutch with 172* 1p coins, they make mighty good weapons as well as a convenient way of storing one's loose change.

*Depending on height, YMMV.

I've had to fight to defend myself while on crutches

You don't want to hit the attacker with your crutch as it will prob break as it's designed to, however you can pivot all your weight into a punch using one crutch pretty snazzy like

You made complaints about your treatment so I’m assuming you made a complaint about being charged for a crime the police themselves said wasn’t committed and it going to court? CPS are liable for something, time wasted etc. How expensive is your time to you? Personally I wouldn’t get out of bed for less than €200 p/h.

No - the desk sergeant took my mobile phone and THEN offered me my free call. Then he proceeded to TRY to put me in a drunk cell (i.e. bed at floor level) and eventually into a normal cell in spite of their being a vacant disability custody suite. He then went on to lie to my wife about my having been arrested and thus I did not receive my epilepsy medication... which she specifically stated posed a risk of death.

So I kept getting letters saying that measures had been taken and would I be happy to leave it there. NO! So he got yanked by the IOPC and all complaints were upheld. I have the letter framed above our toilet.

@fastandbulbous remind me never to get on your wrong side man

your mate was insesnsitive at best, yet also still sounded like he could have been (clumsily, granted) looking out for you - dunno

perhaps the friendship is salvageable? 50 years is a long ass time, but as Diz said that can sometimes be inconsequential. Still....
Length of acquaintance does not determine depth of friendship

Tabloid news: “Publicity stunt of ketamine chemist killing pharmacologist that was bad-mouthing unknown substance. Anonymous sources confirm, it was likely ring substituted substance of...”

Well no publicity is bad publicity lol

You probably would have gotten into bother, as you had a knife, and unless you were there to help him strip cables or it was his knife and had evidence, you'd probably have got murder or manslaughter.
However, them crushing your throat to the point to had to entertain this (you'd have bruises etc.) would have been taken heavily into consideration.
Morally, I think you did the right thing in resisting the urge, but it does look like this friendship could be done.
Good luck getting some sleep and getting well, f&b.

Read more carefully - the OP took the Stanley out of the other guys pocket 😏 so in the struggle, the OP disarmed the guy and they did almost what is a UK tradition CC people carrying knives - they get them shoved up their arse.

That the other guy HAD the Stanley shows that he was intent on serious harm and it was just luck that the OP grabbed it and was able to use it for self-defence.

So I went down to a (what thought was a friend's What he didn't know wascI had a retractable Stanley knife in my pocket, and that had I heard my windpipe crack, in the 60 seconds I had I would have opened the left side of his neck where the the carotid artery and jugular vein run and I would have totally opened him

You're wrong. :(

Oddly specific with the number of coins required to fill up an aluminium crutch... :ROFLMAO:

Couldn't agree more. Seems like OP seems to understand the causes and effects of what happened. Isn't blaming other people for what happened.

OP I don't think that you overreacted, if your friend is not living up to your standards, then you would be right to drop him. You have to decide where you set the bar. Then you have to decide if your buddy meets your expectations or not. If he truly does not meet your standards, drop him.

I'm not convinced at all that you're doing the wrong thing. It's good to have standards.
I'd fuck it up. I know where the carotid artery runs down the neck, but if you've ever seen me play darts, you'd understand my doubts Believe me, in such a situation, the standards that are the basis of personality just get switched off, just as does empathy. It's literally life or death, and as much as I want to be with my wife, I DECIDE WHEN THAT MOMENT IS.Fuck with that, and an angry, vindictive & sadistic side of me maybe one or two bluelighter's have ever seen emerge.
It's a side of me I really dislike

Sad as it is to say, there are some people not worth extending the hand of frienďship.
If it"s anything other than a benign, reciprocal one, get out of there fast. (If it's a fuck, do some fast thinking and moral/ethical judgement!)
