Only lived in CO for 2 years but I understand that Olympic athletes often train there due to the elevation making workouts much more strenuous.

I think that's called blood doping. Training at a higher altitude increases your body's ability to absorb and utilize oxygen. That way when you come down to the oxygen rich lower elevations, your body is in overdrive from the increased ability to handle oxygen-thin air, yet the air is oxygen thick.

I think it has to do with the up-regulation of hemoglobin.

yeah there is an olympic training center there.

colorado also has Red Rocks, which owns.

and starting place of jessica biel, jello biafra, 3oh3, flobots, dressy bessy & some other peoples...

Colorado is the most popular state for winter sports vacations. Resorts like Vail, Aspen, Breckenridge, and Steamboat Springs (among countless others) bring millions of visitors to the state each winter to skii and snowboard in it's Mountains, which cover the Western half of the state.

Colorado is also in perpetual legal battles with surrounding states over water. The Western US has major shortages of the resources, and the legal rights to water from the Green and Colorado rivers puts the state in constant contention.

Colorado is home to some of the countries best technical universities, with the United States Air Force Academy, The Colorado School of Mines, and Colorado University (Boulder). It's home to many of the US government's scientific community, hosting NIST, major NOAA offices, The NWS, NORAD, The USGS, The USBS, and the NEIC.

(look up the acronyms if you want to know, I'm not typing em all out)

Maybe more will come later...

Can we do PA?

Northeast (Scranton/Poconos) - Beautiful, filled of lakes and forests. New Yorkers/Jersey people flood this area in the summer. Best pizza in the state.
Northwest( Erie) Beautiful, wineries and grapes all over the place
Central (State College) - Wide open. Penn State University
Southwest (Pittsburgh) - Grimy, miserable. Where sports teams are a cult(Steelers) Famous for Primanti Bros. sandwiches(coleslaw on it)
Southeast (Philly) - Amazing cheese steak hoagies. Diverse. A whole new world, love it or hate it. Be careful.

I love Denver and would consider moving there. I also really liked Beaver Creek area when we went there maybe 10 years ago or so. I have no clue what it's like nowadays. I'm guessing it's pretty big. I don't think a lot of people realize the whole state isn't all mountains. A lot of it (Eastern CO) is flat like most people imagine Kansas to be like. Also, the Denver airport is one of the few in the country where you can smoke in the terminal. It's a special bar upstairs.

Colorado used to be very nice but now the rich have taken over the western-half (Illegals to the east). I tried to camp out on a city street in Telluride (to-hell-U-ride) a few years ago (and the local park where U can camp out but it was full) but street signs prohibited it. Ended up in a really cold National Forest 20-miles away . . . froze my ass off and it was summer!

Lived in Steamboat Springs when there was only one stop-light, now there must be at least ten.

My grandparents lived in Boulder so when we were kids, we hiked up all the mountains near there (Green, Bear & Mt. Sanitis). In the 70's Boulder was a popular Hippy hangout.

more about the denver airport...

the denver airport is the largest international airport in the US, and third in the world. its white roof was designed to look like mountain peaks.

it has some murals that have spawned some conspiracy theories in the baggage claim area. if you look on google images, you can see up close sections of the mural.

besides that, people have said the airport looks like a swastika and has masonic messages hidden throughout. this blog goes into way more details.

plus... shouldn't you wait for a response before blastin us with facts about PA? :D

.....*looks around*

Oh are you waiting for me to say which state is next?! You don't have to wait for me to choose, anyone can choose, as long as each state gets ample time to be discussed that's all ;)

South Park!! =D

Also the state I was born in and spent most of my childhood. Colorado to me is truly home. <3

I used to live in Crested Butte, Colorado. It was a huge party town, lots of pain pills during the season. The steepest skiing in Colorado and some nice kayaking when the snows melted. The town over was only reachable by snowmobiles during the winter. Laid-back-people and ski/board from the front door to the lifts. I miss it.

Peace,
