We lived in florida when I was very young. my father was in the miliatary and he was stationed in key west in 1961-1963. I had something to do with the Cuban Missle Crisis.
I was only 7 years old when we moved there. I really loved it. We lived on a smaller island off of Key West named Boca Chica. It was part of a group of smaller keys called Big Coppit. The thing I remember the best about Key West is the fact that all I had to do was walk to the end of my street and there was the Gulf of Mexico. I spent all of my time fishing and swimming.

I hear Florida has lots of old people. Many richer families from father north go on vacations there in the winter.

I live in Florida. West Palm Beach to be exact.

I don't really know what else to say. :\

I lived in Florida for 7 years while on active duty. The best beaches are in the panhandle (my opinion) around Panama City because the water is cleaner and clearer. And unlike California, you dont have to wear a jacket and long sleeves to go to the beach.

My favorite part was probably Orlando because of DisneyWorld and Universal Studios. I love theme parks/roller coasters. St Augustine is a really cool place to visit too because it is one of the oldest cities in North America. Florida also is home to 3 NFL teams (Jacksonville, Tampa Bay, Miami), 2 NBA teams (Miami, Orlando) and 1 pro baseball team (Florida Marlins). And many pro baseball teams have spring training there which is affectionately called the "Grapefruit League."

Other points of interest:

- Cape Canaveral, where NASA launches the soon to be retired space shuttles and other space vessels from.

- Miami Beach.......not much more to say there.

- Daytona Beach, where the biggest NASCAR race is held

- Sea World in Orlando

Dog racing is legal in florida, and its totally awesome, once you get past how gross it makes you feel.

I used to work at one. All positions actually. Started at the bottom and worked my up to the top of the ladder.

I'm not sure if that says a lot about me or about dog tracks. 8(

It really depends on what dogs are in the 1 and 8 hole. Some dogs like to 'run wide' which means they prefer the outside of the track and do much better when running out of the 8. If you put them in the 1 spot, they're going to run into all those dogs on their way to the outside of the track and obviously not do well. The opposite, of course, applies to dogs who like to run inside. They won't do well out of the 8 spot.

The racing program lists what the dogs habits are, as in how he likes to run. Some dogs are slow at first but really pick it up towards the end, other dogs are the opposite. I used to write those programs at one point.

If you know your stuff and really study the dogs history and what spot he's running out of, among other things, you can definitely turn a profit in the long run.

I went to a 3 day rock fest in Rockingham, N.C. in 1972. It was called the Peachtree Celebration. there was Alice Cooper, Three Dog Night, and....I can't remember the others. The concert was held at the Rockingham Motor Speedway. Now I follow the NASCAR circuit and everytime they race at Rockingham, I think of that concert.

Down here in good ole NC NASCAR fandom runs rampant >___< As does a lot of redneck behaviour (n.b. I don't mean that liking NASCAR is redneck behaviour :))

The climate is great, hot summers that don't usually get above 95F (35C) with cold winters that don't usually drop below 40F (4.4C), and this is for the piedmont region (mid-state). We have beautiful mountains to the west and pristine beaches to the east, the best of both worlds %). And on those beaches, we have lots of old lighthouses found on the outerbanks, ya know, that little dotted line part hanging off the easternmost piece. We have 100 counties including our very own Transylvania county ;). You can find a lot of historical settlement here, such as the Moravian village of Old Salem where everything looks circa 1700-1800. Weed <3 is one of the state's greatest cash crops (no shit!) along with tobacco, which was responsible for the state's robust beginnings. You ever heard of a little brand of smokes called Camel? That's us heh.

All in all, NC is a kick-ass place to reside; we have small towns in the mountains, we got big cities in the mountains. We got small beach communities and we got large beach cities. And then we have big and small cities in general across the state.

Slightly on the west end of the state, but more so in TN. We also have the Blue Ridge Mountains and Mount Mitchell, the highest peak of the Appalachians and one of the highest peaks in Eastern America.
