POLICE have seized 50kg of ice worth an estimated $50 million after a series of raids in Sydney’s inner west on Wednesday and Thursday.
The drugs were seized from a car, truck and three homes during the police operations, along with $300,000 in cash.
The bust comes after police received information about a criminal syndicate storing a large quantity of methamphetamines in Sydney last week.
Following inquiries, police approached a white Toyota Kluger parked on Meryla St in Burwood around 6.15pm on Wednesday, June 24.
Officers spoke to two men sitting inside the vehicle, before searching it and allegedly discovering a suitcase containing approximately 10kg of ice.
A 33-year-old Canterbury man and a 41-year-old Ashfield man were arrested and taken to Burwood Police station before search warrants were executed at two properties in Burwood and one in Canterbury.
Police seized a further 24kg of ice concealed in boxes of tiles at a home on Archer St in Burwood, and numerous documents at a hotel room on Liverpool Rd in Burwood.
Police also seized more than $300,000 in cash at a unit on Rome St in Canterbury.
The two men were both charged with large commercial drug supply and refused bail before appearing in Burwood Local Court on Thursday, June 25.
The Burwood man’s matter will be mentioned in Burwood Local Court on August 5, and one of the Canterbury man’s matters will be mentioned on July 8.
Neither of the men applied for bail and both were remanded in custody.
After further inquiries, police allege they found another 16kg of ice, also concealed in boxes of tiles, in the back of a truck at Beamish St in Campsie.
Acting drug squad commander Detective Acting Superintendent Jason Smith said the large seizure would prevent tens of thousands of individual deals from reaching NSW streets.
“This seizure represents another important victory in the community’s battle against ice, preventing countless deals from reaching the streets,” Det A/Supt Smith said.
Det A/Supt Smith reminded the public that they had an absolutely vital role in helping police combat drug manufacturers and suppliers.
“If you have any information or suspicions about people who may be involved in ice supply, please do the right thing and contact Crime Stoppers — your information could save many, many lives from the misery this horrible drug breeds,” Det A/Supt Smith said.
