5-HTP in Australia...pill reports...

Does anyone know if 5-HTP or a product that does the simular thing is available in Australia and if so where I may be able to find it? Also i'm from Melbourne and will leave a couple of simple pill reports...
BABY BLUE SPLITS: light blue no print with split: average-good MDEA maybe
AQUA MERCEDES: greyish colour with raised mercedes symbol: very poor not sure what is in them
WHITE MITSUBISHIS: largish plain white pill with small mitsubishi symbol: poor-average maybe little bit of speed in them
GREEN SPLITS: tallish green painted looking pill: average smacky kinda pill not sure what is in them
PINK TWEETIES: pink pill tweety symbol: good mdma with coke apparently
CHICAGO BULLS: white pill with bull head on them: average-good speedy pill
BLUE LOVE: lightish blue pill with love stamped: very very good smacky...mdma
GREY PISCES: grey pill with fish stamps: very very good smacky...mdma same as blue love
ROLEX: white pill with rolex symbol or whatever it is: very good...mdma

Is it just "not" available in Australia, or is it illegal to sell it?
If its illegal then won't it be confiscated before you get it? If its not illegal then why doesn't anyone sell it?
 
ok its not illegal to have in australia, its just illegal to sell it... so you can order "amounts for personal use" over the web, and you wont get into trouble.
i can guarentee that customs will open your mail tho... it freaks you out the first time but you'll soon not even see the "opened and resealed by customs" stickers...
you will get into trouble tho if yo bring in heaps and try to sell it...
this all comes from the fact that it is not authorised for use as a medicine by the american food and drug administration, mainly because no clinical trials have been done on it.
 
lol - matter of fact i just got my first ever 5-htp caps today - it took 9 days after ordering on 5-htp direct - i didn't even notice the huge red customs sticker until i read this post and had a look.
 
Heh. Can't buy it in Australia. No wonder all the chemists I talk to give me strange looks

Ok Thanks Johnboy for that URL about 5-htp, but I have a question (which I think someone did answer some time ago but I cannot remember). I don't have a credit card!
Is it possible to still get 5-htp anywhere?
Perhaps some nice bluelighter would be prepared to order one on behalf of me..?

Erm don't bother paying these sort of exorbitant prices. I find the miraculous claims for 5-HTP as opposed to l-tryptophan rather suspect.
You can get tryptophan from Golden Glow. I've been using these guys to supply my vitamins for years and they're great. Way cheaper than chemists and very quick on delivery.
For best results, tryptophan should be taken on an empty stomach (not hard after a big night out

with vitamin C (use a salt form if you have no food in your stomach--something like sodium ascorbate--instead of ascorbic acid) and vitamin B6. These are the chemicals your body uses to turn it all into seratonin.
The empty stomach thing is important. Amino acids compete with proteins to cross the blood-brain barrier so if you have no protein it's more efficient.
 
Vitamin C and B6 is converted into serotonin? Back to the textbooks baby! They act as anti-oxidants which help your body get rid of free-radicals. Stuff that makes you feel shitty. Nothing to do with serotonin.
Oh and proteins are MADE UP of amino acids. But you are right in the sense that different amino acids compete with each other, so it would be better if you did not take a whole tank of them. Starving yourself is probably not a very good idea.
JB: are you serious? 5-htp can't be bought OTC in Oz? Looks like i should stock up b4 going over!

Is correct! Vitamin B6 helps stuff cross the blood/brain barrier.
5-HTP only works for me when used with B6.

of course you can get it in australia, at least i did! or has it changed since november last year? i bought it in melbourne, and nobody gave me strange looks!

5-htp is not available in Australia over the counter, hopefully the governments push to deregulate our market will allow it's introduction. Before i bought my first lot of 5-htp i contacted customs and enquired. It is not scheduled, they advised:
Personal Imports of St John's Wort and 5-Hydroxy Tryptophan (5-HTP)
Please be advised that you do not require an import permit under the
Customs ( Prohibited Imports ) Regulations to import these substances.
However, the maximum quantity allowed for import at any one time is 3
month's supply and nmt 15 months supply in any 12 month period.
SO go for your life. I recommend http://www.iherb.com but check out all of them for yourself. Buy some other goodies while you are there, DLPA, gluanthione, St Johns Wort, or whatever else takes your fancy

you have to purchase it by credit card, it is actually a contriban substance, but you can import, I have had a fair few friends who have bought it through the net good to pre empt yourself for a long hard roll

just to confuse things a bit, i was told by my local health food store (health is life - nothcote plaza, melbourne, 03 9486 1566) only this week (july 2000) that they could get 5-htp in for me, but it was as a bulk powder mixed with several other ingredients (mainly amino acids). i can't remember the price off the top of my head but it was dearer than i pay to get it from www.iherb.com .
 
wow! nobody mentioned to hit the 'search' button...this was discussed fairly recently.
Heller's Health foods in Crows Nest, Sydney will order in 5HTP.
I would still be wary of just buying 'tryptophan' as opposed to 5HTP, due to the contamination scare, I thought this was why 5HTP became popular as a substitute..as I said once before, the tryptophan was contaminated due to the Japanese trying to increase the yield with genetically modified crops..thank god we're getting labelling !
