So here is my situation and I was wondering if anyone may have had a similiar experience. I am a 24 year old male in decent general health although I do smoke pot and cigs. I use adderall from time to time for recreational purposes which is not very often. This last time I had a horrid experience that almost sent me to the ER thinking I was having a heart attack! LOL! Thankfully my heart slowed down b4 I needed to go and I am still alive 4 now. So here is what i did and the bad effect i got from it:

1) I dosed 15mg Adderral IR around 7 pm Monday night. I went 2 sleep at 12am with no problems except a bit of a fast heart rate which this shit always does to me anyways.

2) I awoke around 9am to get myself ready for work. I felt it had been like 14 hours and the adderall had definately worn off by now so I decided to chug a Chaser 5 hour energy shot to get me through the rest of my work day since my sleep was a bit shitty from the night b4. I believe chugging that shit was a BIG MISTAKE8o

3) I got to work around 10am and I started to feel a bit fuzzy headed and shakey. it really was a weird feeling like I was full of energy but I also felt like shit at the same time. I also noticed my heart rate would increase considerably whenever i needed to stand up or walk. Oh fuck me:!

4) So I am sitting in a meeting with my boss when I noticed I was sweating profusely!! My hands were cold and clammy and I was getting these extreme stabbing pains in my chest that were fleeting as fast as they came on. My heart was racing and just kept beating faster and faster as i was sitting there. My usual resting pulse is around 80-90bpm and mine here was around 130bpm:!Needless to say I was flipping out but trying to look calm in front of my boss.

5) After the meeting ended I stood up from my chair and I felt like my heart was pounding out of my chest!! I felt like passing out and my whole body felt like a huge numb fuzzy rush went over it. I work in a hospital so i immediately headed my way to the ER the whole time praying I would make it there b4 collapsing in the hallway as my heart feels like it is going to explode!

6) I make it to the ER and pull my nurse friend to the side and tell him what im going through. He laughes at me and calls me an idiot then tells me to sit my dumb ass down while he takes my BP and pulse rate. My Bp was 135/90 and my pulse was 115 bpm. My usual is 111/72 and my pulse is 75-80!! I started to freak and told him I was having a heart attack and he told me to calm down he doesn't think I am because he said my stats were only slightly elevated. He told me to drink a shit ton of water because my CNS was just overstimulated and my anxiety was making it worse.

7) Well I made it through most of my work day heart pounding, dizziness and all. My heart finally started slowing down around 4pm or 6 hours later. My pulse was still over 100 but my heart didn't seem to be pounding as hard anymore and my BP dropped to 122/80. To be honest I could slowly feel like this veil was being lifted from me and I was coming back down to reality. I left work at 5pm went straight home to smoke a bowl and calm myself down. I then laid down in my bed. My heart continued to beat fast until i fell asleep around 3 hours later.

The next day I woke up I felt fine but for like 3 days after that my heart was acting a bit weird like I could feel it beating in different parts of my chest. it would seem like it was beating really fast against my chest but when i would check my pulse it was a regular consistent beat. I think this was nerves or something in my chest twitching from prior adderall use. After those few days everything seems back to normal thank goodness! i was also so terrified I even avoided caffiene completely for like a week. I thought i was so close to death that day that I feel the need to thank the lord every day I wake up now. That shit was scary, scary, scary!!!

SO my question is this. What the hell could have caused this?? I drank 5 hour energy shots every day prior to this so I was very tolerant to these thing. Could it have been that the addy was still active in my system after 14 hours?? IDK what the fuck happened but I am hoping someone could explain this to me. The 5 hour energy shot does have L-Tyrosine, N-Acetyl, L-Phenylalanine, Taurine, Niacin, and caffiene equal to 12 ounces of premium coffee. I was thinking one of these ingrediants mixed with the small amount of dormant adderall in my system and caused an extreme reaction that got my heart going crazy! I know this was long I do apologize but I just wanted to know what the heck happened to me and if anyone here had an experience like mine. Any input is welcome!:)

P.S I talked with my nurse friend about any permanent damage and he said that it was very unlikely. He said your heart could beat much faster than mine was for 24 hours and still not recieve any permanent damage. He thought I just became way overstimulated and my anxiety made it much worse. This just sucks now because now I am constantly obsessed with checking my pulse and all that shit. I really hope this lingering anxiety will go away. my buddy also said that the shitty side effects of adderall can linger for weeks b4 fully subsiding when someone abuses them. he said due to my age it was extremely unlikely that I had any type of heart attack and that if I did have a heat attack I probably would have collapsed.

Panic. Have you ever had a panic attack before? If you haven't than that was your first one. Your heart rate being elevated is probably happening because you are having anxiety that you may have permanently damaged yourelf or that it may happen again.

In my experience with Adderall, I definitely can not touch caffeine at the same time. And also Adderall often lasts well into the next morning even though you are not feeling it acutely. If I believe Wikipedia, the half life is around 12 hours and it's not completely eliminated from your system for around 24.

The energy shot re-ignited and synergized with it a little. I always have bad luck with caffeine now, I don't drink it anymore.

OIC Thank you so much for your input I really appreciate it. I didnt think it was panic because, well, I have never had a panic problem b4 I guess. At least not panic that I have ever realized. Well as we speak I have actually just taken another 15mg adderall and I feel pretty good. I hae just a couple more questions maybe u can help me with these to:

1) Right now I am noticing that my heart is actually beating really slooooow. LOL. WTF ?
2) every time I take this shit my chest tightens way up and I get these shooting pains in my sternum. I dont believe it's my heart because it hurts when I physically put pressure on my sternum. Do you have muscles or somethin that can tighten in your sternum??

Tahnks alot I know I have alot of questions but I want to get the most from adderall but usually 2 hours into it I panick and then have to lay down till it wears off. Maybe i need some benzos or somethin IDK lol.

My own adderall-induced panic attacks can involve chest pains and all sorts of other pains radiating from my chest. At first I was 100% positive I was having a heart attack and the ER just said it was panic. Pains in the chest and other areas of the body occur from tension. I get this often because if you are sitting relatively still while on amphetamine it can cause this invisible tension pains. When I am on the move I dont get these. Also another cause of panic attacks can occur from the monitoring of your heart and breathing. When I can hear my heart I listen to it and get all intense thinking about it, which causes even more anxiety and tension, which in turn causes actual physical pain.

Sure a benzo would help but be careful with your intake because benzos dull the amp and you can get easily hooked on those too.

Seems like only yesterday we were talking you down off your panic attack. Well done, young grasshopper. :)

Part of panic disorder or a panic attack is things you are naturally not supposed to notice such as your heart beat or your breathing becomes noticable.. it then causes panic. Your body has to re learn how to ignore such things.. Once you become aware of it... the fear of having another attack takes over and you end up with panic disorder...

I would be very careful right now... prevent an attack at any cost.. You don't want to wind up with panic disorder...

If you got some benzos... maybe a few days on benzos will help you greatly because it's short term... I wouldn't wish panic attacks on anybody.

You are on the verge, don't let it happen to you! Especially the attacks that come out of nowhere and make you think you're having a heart attack... its horrid.

If the half life is 12 hours then surely at 24 hours 1/4 would remain?

You guys are awesome it's like I get an instant response on this forum that will usually calm me down a bit. I just find it so odd that i'm only 24 and the first time I took them in high school I was 17 and I parachuted like 60mg and felt great for like 24 hours with 0 negative side effects. I guess then I also was in the best shape of my life and felt invincible to the world. My how times have changed over just a few years. Im not gonna mess with the benzo's since I am curently on suboxone maintenance and that would be a bit dangerous. I have been on Sub 4 over a year I guess I should have mentioned that but I totally 4got lol. However I never took sub and addy 2gether and from what I have found it is safe to take amp if you r dependant on sub as there r no interactions. Have a good day everyone and thanks 4 the help!

Taking Adderall with the caffeine or whatever the hell is in those isn't a good combo. The Adderall is one quarter (roughly maybe a third) levo-amphetamine which, if I understand correctly has a side effects profile similar to caffeine i.e. not euphoric and working primarily on the peripheral nervous system. I can see my heart beating out of my chest on those two together

I wouldn't go with that combo, eventually you have to "comedown" and that's never going to be fun. I can tell you first-hand that I never had a panic attack until a few months after being on adderall, which I was prescribed for a while and eventually quit for good. Even to this day now I still have some anxiety, something I never had before I ever took adderall. That's a tricky drug that IMO should only be taken by people who really, really need it.

It is easy for it to happen. Even if you're taking your usual dose you can still have a panic attack. It is a lot to do with psychological reaction as other posters said

I'm hesitating to move this to Trip reports, but i think you'll get more ussefull advice here...

the only thing i can think of is that theres a substance in the energy drink that reacted with the adderall (which allthough the effects have finished, will still be in your system...) and caused the effects you mentioned
