Heroin #4 in a box/whip vaporizer

So I have a pretty good vaporizer that I've pretty much only ever used for buds. It's a high-end "pencil sharpener" type deal, where the bowl and heating element attach via glass-on-glass like a nice bong. There's a hose attached to the bowl that you suck through, pulling air through the element and bowl (where the material is released as vapor) and into your lungs.

Unfortunately, the temperature knob is numbered from 0-9, there's no way to get an exact temperature reading - however, I've never had much success getting weed to vape at anything below 7 or 8 on the knob. My question is, can I sandwich some high-quality powder dope between some ground up buds, and effectively vaporize it this way? Would I wanna just start low and slowly increase the temperature until something happens?

Also, I've heard cutting #4 with caffeine is essential to smoking it, and while I don't have caffeine powder I have no-doz pills. Can I simply grind them up and cut them into the powder, or would I have to extract the alkaloid with a CWE-type process? Also, what's a good ratio to use, say 100mg caffeine to 100mg dope?

Thanks in advance for the tips. I have a feeling this can work, as I had an experience a few years ago that got me outrageously high - a friend ground up an OC80 and put it in his Volcano. Don't know if I've ever been that fucked up on OC before or after...

i dont think it will work that great. i dont have any proof but i have tried smoking powder a few different times. up my nose has always worked the best.

it always turns into a black blob no matter what i do. sure you can get some of it to smoke but its like .001% of the amount. i think the burning threshold is too low to make it vapor.

seems like a waste IMO

I have #4 too I think, its like very grey/tan powder not 100% powdery but not like those brown rocks I read about so often so im presuming its #4. like other dude wrote its better up my nose. Tried rolling it with oregano because I dont smoke cigs or weed worked a little or only placebo effect then chased it again not so good. just insufflate man it'll be less hassle.

In NA you'll typically have #4 or tar (which some call #3.5 because it's still heroin HCl like #4). I've only had #3 once which is the easily smokable heroin freebase powder that needs an acid for water solubility. Anyway, it's not that the "burning point" is too low, but that the vapor point is too high. You need a torch indirectly heating extremely tolerant glass to vaporize the #4 powder without burning it, and even then your hits will be small unless you're smoking in some kind of industrialized setup Lettuce, weed, oregano, etc. will not effectively shield your dope from mostly being burned with direct flame, and a vape will ignite the plant material, burning the H. You can still get high these ways with #4, but it's so much more efficient to snort or use other ways.

well this stuff is from montreal, not the OP's but mine anyway. It is all powder but if you compress little bits it feels sticky almost but I dont think its one of those tar added with some inert/active powder cut to make it snortable kinda thing.

Sticky sounds kinda funny, but your previous description was suggestive enough of #4 in every way. Tar has too much other junk to easily disguise it. It's likely just the insoluble cut responsible for the stickiness... If you put a little in water, you could probably see the good stuff quickly enter solution while the sticky junk settles to the bottom. Montreal's in NA, so I was generalizing about you too, by the way

oh yeah my bad I wasnt thinking but i heard that before. that all along east its powder ranging from different colors and west is tar.

Yep. For trivia's sake, my #3, very light brown, was from North Carolina farther down the east coast. Strange market though...
