4-HO-MiPT - First Time - Milligrams of Minuscule Mushrooms
Substance: 4-HO-MiPT
Dose: 16 Milligrams / Clear Capsule Ingested
Setting: Balboa Park, San Diego, California
Date: Friday, November 26, 2004. 4:00 PM.
I hadn't originally been too interested in experimenting with most of these 4-group types of compounds, but a friend had received some of this specific substance and was willing to part with it. I had been told by a few trustable sources that they could not tell the difference between it and Mushrooms, and as this substance was a homologue of psilocin, I fully believed them. Yet having shroomed many, many times, I was curious to see if I personally would be able to tell a difference in the trips. I haven't done shrooms in a while and haven't felt the need to, so this trip was done in curiosity as much as anything else.
I bought 3 doses and split them up - mine came out to 16 mg with the others relatively the same. We planned to hit up Balboa Park, which is near Downtown San Diego, in a nice area near the Zoo. It isn't 'too' expansive, but its a nice area and there is some cool stuff around, including vast museums and many trails leading around the area.
4:00 PM
I drive down to the park with the other two, and we take our doses as soon as we get there. The place I parked in was about a 10-15 minute walk across a huge bridge to the Park itself. I realized I hadn't eaten anything that entire day, and expected the drug to hit me extremely fast, as most substances do when my stomach is empty. Especially with mushrooms, I sometimes feel like I notice the effects 'instantly' after I eat them. More physically than mentally of course, and it's probably a lot of placebo, but either way, the feelings are there.
15 Minutes later, right after we cross the bridge into the main museum area, I feel the first familiar effects. Perspective is slightly changing and my body has that common feeling of "shrinking" relative to the open environment around me. We enter the most busy area of the place, and there are quite a few people. I'm extremely trained at dismissing the paranoia that is accompanied with most mushroom trips these days, but there is still a sense of social confusion. It was no big deal though, especially since everyone was crowded around an entertainer/magician type of guy shouting out to the people. We stood near the back and watched his antics. He had a box full of gadgets and weird objects, and I was hoping he would pull them out and do some crazy things, but apparently we got there a little late because it was time for his final routine.
He pulled out 7 fairly good sized balls, each a bit bigger than a tennis ball or so... and set them on top of his box. He made a few jokes that weren't too hilarious, and then picked up the balls. He stated he was going to juggle them all at once. Now I've seen people juggle some unique items before, but I don't think i've seen someone do "7" full objects at a time... I was a little dubious. He kept talking while he held the balls in position, and his tone was one of total sarcasm - we wondered if he was serious or not. After enough talking for everyone, he said "Ok", and concentrated for a few seconds. He tossed up the first hand and then immediately stopped his movements and caught them - stating the beginning was the most difficult. After another pause, his hands flew upwards and the balls were almost all instantaneously in the air. It was an amazing spectacle as he perfectly cycled all 7 balls back and forth - a flurry of yellow colors in the air. He kept it going for quite a while and looking at his hands moving, my jaw dropped and my mindstate picked up steam at a highly increasing rate from seeing this being performed. As we were walking away, he said it took 11 years to get up to 7 balls at a time without dropping them... many people were cheering and we got the hell out of there.
4:40 PM
The comeup is definitely not much different than mushrooms at all, and we were being blasted pretty quick into another world. We took a path hooked off of a side of one of the museums and proceeded down a sloping path to a circular area below. There were no people around and we sat down while the feelings got stronger. I usually don't get 'too' much nausea on shrooms, but when you're marching around at a fast rate and your heart is beating, it's always somewhat uncomfortable in the stomach/chest area. It's been about an hour at this point and the peak of the experience is approaching rapidly. I close my eyes and attempt to study the CEV's, which I always do. I smile in content, because I feel like I have found a difference between this and shrooms (everything else has been exactly the same.). The CEV's are more shallow and 'twirly' than my normal mushroom visuals. The colors are more pronounced, yet there does not seem to be as much of an internal world within my head. I guess I would say it did not feel as deep of psychedelic headspace, but it may have just been my set and setting - it's hard to distinguish. It just felt different than Psilocybin shrooms.
5:10 PM
The sky is a lot darker than we had expected, and most people are leaving the park. It's slightly cold, which I don't mind at *all* while sober, but I do not prefer it at all while on psychedelics. But I brought a sweatshirt so it wasn't a big deal.
We march down a well-traversed path into the ravine below. There were trees on the slopes on either side, but a fairly plain dirt area ahead. I was definitely in the mushroom world though. Bewilderment (although quite a bit less than my teenage trips - which is why I use 'cybin in extreme moderation these days) accompanied my visions as we walked in an erratic and trippy manner through nature. The trees looked clear and content, and our destination was not quite confirmed... which is always the best part. We got to basically the 'end' of the path, which was fairly abrupt, and ahead of us we saw the security parking lot behind a fence. Obviously that was not to be the route we took, so we turned left and hiked up an averagely steep hill to the grassy area above.
5:40 PM
We ended up near a large grassy area with a playground and public bathroom very nearby. A few little kids were still playing on the swings and such. After using the bathroom and sitting on the bench for a minute to rest, we headed across the field to an area under a few huge trees. Here, my other 2 companions pulled out a pipe filled with medical club-grade marijuana and began to smoke. Now usually I would join them (of course!), but this happens to be a very rare period in my life in which I am on an extended weed break. It had been 70 days pot-sober as of this date and my goal has been 2005. Why am I doing this? I don't really know... haha. (There actually are a few good reasons, but that's another story in itself.)
They are done smoking and we are just sitting back enjoying the setting sun across the san diego horizon. This is the peak of the trip I believe, and I am able to collect my thoughts about the situation. It's at this point that I conclude my acquaintances were fully correct - I absolutely could not tell the difference in trips between Psilocybin mushrooms and 4-HO-MiPT. The differences that I did notice were so, so minor, that it would be fairly hard to even explain them. So there are some, but there's no real reason to look for them, and if you take this substance, except to be fully shrooming. I also came to the conclusion that the potency of this trip equaled *roughly 2.0 Grams* of average shrooms. Just a bit more than a half an eighth trip.
The San Diego airport is *really* close to the downtown buildings, and we were able to see both. As always, I was in awe as the huge flying machines soared and cut through the air towards their destination. As the planes were moving in a perfectly straight line, I had visuals of their entire route outlined in the sky. I was really playing with this idea, and to my content, I was exactly correct in where I predicted the plane would 'appear' in the sky seconds & minutes later. I am sure this wasn't placebo either... it was very entertaining
. My friend "N" stated, "No matter how many times I see it, I still don't get it. A tube of metal flying through the air... I don't get it." It was pretty funny and I thought about the concept for a while too.
My closed eye visuals were there, but not pronounced, as I stated earlier. The imagined world wasn't quite complete in my head, yet the colors and geometrical lines were creating some interesting puzzles behind my eyelids. Not too many open eye visuals, as usual, but the reddish/golden color on the horizon was awesome. Every spectrum of the rainbow, excluding blue, was lined up in increasing power from the horizon up. I even saw a little bit of green hidden around the areas where the sun had just set.
6:40 PM
It is pretty much fully dark now, and we leave the area under the tree, and seeing no other real route back, we proceed back down the mountainside we had come up. Back onto the path, it looked extremely different than it previously had. And at some point, im positive we took a slightly different direction because we ended up at the bottom of a very steep hill that was heading up towards some sort of building establishment. There were colored lights up there and we [correctly] guessed that it was the restaurant. Quite an expensive one too, I might add. If we were to climb up the hill, we would hit the wall that separates the outdoor eating area from the hill - it would be funny if a huge amount of people saw 3 crazed trippers fly over a wall into their space. We looked at each other, and realizing we needed more adventure than we currently had, began to climb. It wasn't dangerously steep but we were on all fours for the most part, finding each successive 'spot' to safely step on. We were laughing and totally uncaring as we flew up the hill... I was the first to reach the top and had no choice but to fly over the low-set wall in front of me...
Whew... lucky. The place had cleared out and the only person who saw us was a worker cleaning up the tables. I made eye contact with him and he had a funny look on his face, a "Wtf?" type of face... I just smiled and led the other two along the brick paths to another location.
8:00 PM
Between that time and now, 4 hours later, we just explored a lot of areas of the park. There were more paths (some extremely questionable ones - we didn't know if they were supposed to be traveled on or not), more questions about what we were actually trying to attain from this, and more laughs. They smoked a couple more times and stated that weed really picks up the trip - just as when on mushrooms. We decided that we had enough and someone mentioned "Inn N Out", which sparked my interest immensely. For anyone not familiar with Inn N Out, it's definitely one of the best fast food burger places on the West Coast (maybe only Cali)... There are basically 4 things on the menu, no more, and each is made so perfectly every time. It was decided we would go there for sure.
8:30 PM
The comedown is in full force and it's not uncomfortable - being in public again tells me I'm still slightly tripping. Peoples faces are shifting and psychedelic and I can't look at anyone straight for more than a couple seconds. We eat our food - flawless. Chocolate Milkshake - flawless.
I drive home, sober now (basically), and we hang out at "J"'s house for a while. Watch Jeopardy while doing some nitrous (LOL)... that Ken guy is on tearing the questions up.. and I answer a few hard ones myself while in a fully altered mindstate, which makes me happy... I love that show. Then we watch "The Basketball Diaries" which I hadn't seen before and fully enjoyed.
The rest is history....
Conclusion:
Mushrooms in a capsule. The slight differences are not even strong enough to state, and I felt that it was pretty much a standard shroom trip. Although, I would say that it lasted a couple hours shorter than a shroom trip of the same intensity would. 4.5 Hours would be my estimate from comeup to baseline. While 16 mg of 4-HO-MiPT seemed to equal about 2.0 g of standard Psilocybin shrooms, I would imagine that increasing the dose slightly (up to 22 or 24 mg) would greatly increase the comparison between the two, probably to a full eighth easily, although I'm not sure, just an estimate.
