4-Aco-DMT in Riviera Maya, Mexico . . . disrespectful?

So my wife and I are going to be honeymooning near Cancun and while we are there, we'll be visiting several ruins and what not. I have some mushrooms but my wife is uneasy about traveling with them. I also have some 4-Aco-DMT. I keep asking myself whether or not it is disrespectful to trip on a substance like this in this setting. Of course I approach the table with great respect for psychedelics, for tryptamines, and for psilocybin. I can't shake the feeling that using a chemical, intellectually derived from the sacred mushroom, and mass produced in China, is terribly offensive.

Can someone weigh in on this? I could use the advice.

I would say it is not the substance that is important, but one's intent. As we're well aware psychedelics are catalysts for experiences, & the experience itself is not contained in the substance. IIRC Gordon Wasson & Albert Hoffman gave Maria Sabina synthetic psilocybin manufactured by Sandoz in the 60s & she thanked them because she would be able to serve people even when no mushrooms were available. She also remarked that there wasn't much difference between the pills & mushrooms. My 2¢

^ Perfect answer AMD. I totally agree and would not hesitate to do what the initial poster intends. Respect comes from many things, but it doesn't factor in here except in a personal belief which can change. Intent is the most important part of respect.

Go for it PD and have fun on your honeymoon. Come back and let us know how it went.

^ Very interesting article huolesoh. It is similar with the Maria Sabina situation except it goes further. (I have been on evolver but missed that article)

Modern chemistry is an amazing thing and it's nice to see seasoned Shamans appreciate what comes from it. My "belief" is if it exists in the Universe then many things are born for a reason and can be utilized in many ways. Nature creating within creation.

I understand the natural verses synthetic debate can go on and on, but I always remember it was LSD (a semi synthetic substance) that fueled the psychedelic age and is a respected substance by many.

My last thought, the spirit of Riviera Maya would be proud at what exists today. :D

Man, humans are natural, too. Maybe these chemicals aren't organic, but they're simply modified molecules.

This while organic versus synthetic argument is dumb. What's the difference? I don't see any whatsoever ha.

I took 20mg of 4acodmt and some Dom at chichen itza last winter and it was insane. There's something to be said about watching a kaleidoscopic energy grid slide up and down a pyramid while radiating into the sky. If u do go to chichen itza make sure you go swimming in the cenote close by after. Floating in it after tripping at one of the wonders of the world was so tranquil and reflective. Perfect closure to the experiance.

Agreed about the intentions. It doesn't really matter what other people think if you are not bothering anyone with it. Personally I don't even think it's disrespectful in other ways, the way smoking salvia is not intended to be taken that way yet most people use that route of administration. It's not about pissing over ancient cultures and traditions but about misuse of those traditions which is, if anything, a shame. I think the same is true for smoking DMT: it's too fast to get all the value out of such an experience and it should be extended with MAO inhibitors.
For 4-AcO-DMT it's fine, it's very deep and qualitatively potent. Maybe if it was 4-HO-MET you could say that it is a little unfair to presume taking this in a traditional setting with the same intentions as if it were magic mushrooms because it can be lighter and much less serious. But it's mostly unfair towards yourself, just don't set up a shop alongside the river selling substitutes for a ritual trip e.g. 'if you don't have time to ride out a full trip and want to cut the length in half'. That would indeed be a tragedy.

to who would it be offensive? i think you are the only one able to judge that....

i see no problem doing whatever you want wherever you want, as long as your intentions are true. its the same quesiton you should ask when drinking at the beach watching the sun set. is it disrespectful to nature to be getting intoxicated while being treated to a beautiful show?

i once made love at midnight while bathing in the sea. it was illegal, probably a bit disrespectful to the people owning that part of the beach, but to me and my girl it was a unique and priceless moment of being together. and thats all that matters no?

Isn't respect and disrespect a human concept rather than a concept of the psychedelic itself?

You're forgetting Mr Mushroom God, he might get offended.

If you don't believe in him you'll be fine; unless someone catches you with it, bear that in mind.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I have been torn on this but I appreciate all of your advice. I'll probably wind up taking some 4-Aco-DMT while I'm there. I would prefer mushrooms but it's not worth the travel risk.
We just decided to make it out to Chichen Itza last night. We were originally planning on Tulum because it was closer but I think we should make the most of the trip. :)
