Ive been in the hospital after a car accident for 4 days with broken ankle and total body soreness, and went from 1 mg dilaudid with no effect, to 2 mg every three hours, now ive been on 3 mg every 3 hours for 2 days, and it's been doing a great job with the pain. I had surgery a few hours ago and was given my dilaudid dose right after. Now they told me they are switching me to 10mg OP oxycontin oral, and it jist seems weak compared to dilaudid iv 3mg. They want to get me ready to go home, but im worried it wont do anything to kill the pain. Should i ask for something stronger until it gets closer to my discharge time? I want to ask for more iv dilaudid since my surgery was just a few.hours ago. Do you think i should? Also what oral pill is.about equal to 3 mg dilaudid?

Thanks again guys

Talk to your doctor, we can't help you get more drugs. For one it isn't up to us even if we suggest something that would work for your pain. It is up to your doctor to decide what he wants to script you. Tell him how much it hurts and push for a stronger pain med, thats really all you can do.

http://www.globalrph.com/narcoticonv.htm here is a basic opioid converter, check it out for conversions.

30 mg roxicodone or 40mg morphine IR maybe? Any oral pill's gonna last alot longer than IV dilaudid (3.5 hours or so)

IV Bioavaiability = 100% dose - 3mg
Oral Bioavailability = 33% dose - 9mg

Since the oral BA of hydromorphone is between 30-35% (lets say 33) it is about 1/3 that of IV, therefore you need to take 3x the dose to achieve the same effects. I did the math above.

Edit: I didn't realize you were asking about drugs other than dilaudid, but at least you have that info now. I'll post some other stuff in a bit.

OK. So the 10mg of oxycodone is right, but since it is extended release in the OPs, the dose is low. The IR would work though. Another option would be morphine, around 40mg oral, 45 max.

Thanks for all the replies. I took the 10 mg OP and have a 25 mcg fentnyl patch on and essentially feel no different. When they give me the dilaudid it has that instant onset and relieves almost all of the pain right away. I did ask my nurse to see if we can start messing with the pills tomorrow since im fresh out of surgery. Also they should give me IR but i dont want to act like I know about pills other than what they've gjven me here in the past. Do you think i should ask for dilaudid pill form. I know its way weaker orally but i can insuffalate or get a friend to help iv them, i have a few buddies with experience doing them that way.

Also i should note that i have a mid level H tolerance that has been brought down pretty far by being here for 5 days now.

Oh you already did H?

Well ionno. It's up to you. Run it BY them. They cant give you NOTHIHNG so worst case theyll just say no.

If you are going to get dillys. Invest 25 dollars in 5 micron filters. You can use one to filter out 4-5 pills at a time

http://www.gpzservices.com/items/pr.../syringe-filter-20u-sterile-20sfss-detail.htm

You can buy em here. You can do money order if you dont have credit or debit like me. (Im a cash man in a modern world)

Most people will warn you about money orders but I just received my order today so I can vouch atleast.

Be safe. Oh and cotton filter first. 31 gauge needles = less vein damadge

You should also CONSIDER getting bac-water if you like filter out your whole script at once. So you can stor it for a week or two without the worry of bacteria. And a sterile vial or nay sterile container. I strongly recommend AGAINST IV in the sake of HR and cause of how it fucks up lives...BUT I know I'm just some dude on the internet so you probably won't listen.
