So, I can't truly say I have ever hallucinated before in my life, that was until last night.
History: I do take recreational drugs from time to time but am not a serious drug user IMO. I smoke marijuana sometimes to casually relax and take Adderal on occasions to sometimes frequently to get heavy loads of work done or errands done quickly and effortlessly.
I came down with a cold a few nights ago and was prescribed codeine cough syrup with promethazine (6.25-10)
I took a moderate drink out of the bottle at about 2pm and took another moderate drink at about 7-8 pm. I would say I drink about 30 some Mls all together as a rough estimate throughout the day. Anyways, I couldn't sleep later that night, so at about 12am or so I took 2, 25mg Doxylamine pills to use as a sleep aid, I also popped about 4, 5mg melatonins (natural sleep aid pills). So I thought this should do it, I should be able to sleep now. I have never mixed these things together before and was not expecting what was about to happen.
I closed my eyes and started seeing a rapid slideshow of random toys that I haven't seen since my childhood. Toys I used to play with, vivid vizualizations one after another. I had no control over it, I even tried to stop thinking about it and think of something else but the slideshow kept going. I seen toy cars with the wheels spinning like I was watching tv in my head. I wasn't even asleep. I seen this cup and ball things and about 100 other toys I had completely forgotten about until now. I also seen a brief flash of a man without a face. The head and body was there but the facial features were like.... erased out.. I seen shadows and things moving. When I got up to walk my legs were a little out of control, but my other motor functions like my hands and such were okay. I even proceeded to clean the bathroom counter and organize/put away some stuff and go outside for a cigarette. I performed these functions just fine.
It was so bizarre. Everything was very vivid and detailed and I couldn't stop it. I then freaked a little and sat up, I looked into the mirror and thought I was the person in the mirror, like a feeling that I left my body. I thought "that is me in that mirror. I am in there, and the person sitting on my bed looking into the mirror is someone else. I have no connection with the person sitting on the bed." I think I was experiencing severe delirium. I was getting worried and scared because I didn't know if something seriously bad was happening, debating on going to the ER but decided not to. I couldn't really find any info on Google when I typed in "codeine mixed with Doxylamine" and other variations. I started seeing things in my room, the poster was coming to life a little, and I didn't feel like I was a part of my body anymore.
But, I did not feel bad, or sick, or dizzy. I felt just totally FINE. Like, not even sleepy or energetic, or even high! I didn't even feel high! Which was SOOO weird! except for the fact I was seeing things and hearing things. I was clearly high. I sat there and looked at my watch for a while....... I couldn't shut my mouth it was drooped open, I even drooled a little at times out of nowhere, I am sure I looked completely doped up. When I was staring at the watch the second hand starting ticking rapidly, like faster than it should, then it would STOP and then rapidly tick again really fast. I knew I was hallucinating this. I even tried to concentrate and squint my eyes to make myself see it tick normally, but it wouldn't, it kept ticking really fast. I then knew I had no absolutely no control over what I was seeing. I checked my pulse multiple times throughout the experience and I was at around 80bpm for a few hours. Which is lower than I normally run, but I knew the codeine would attribute to that as it turns to morphine in the body which lowers heart rate, so I thought okay so that's not so bad. My breathing was not so bad either. I was taking deep breaths but they didn't feel "full", but I could still breath with relatively enough ease that would not cause a panic attack, so I felt okay with my breathing. I was hallucinating many other things that I didn't mention, but I cannot explain a lot of the other things that I seen and hearfd, I only remember some of it right now.
SO yeah! That was my experience. Total surprise to me and didn't do it deliberately, but a memorable experience nonetheless. I hope no permanent damage occurred to my brain, nervous system, muscles or internal organs, that still worries me a bit, but it's a little too late so I might as well carry on like it never happened. I would have tried to enjoy this trip more if I wasn't so caught up with wondering if I was going to be okay or not. If I had known other people had taken these meds together and it was known to not usually be deadly I would have relaxed and enjoyed my trip more. But I didn't know at the time, I thought I was in deep sh*t for a while health wise.
So, what do you think may have been going on in my brain/body chemical wise, specifically? Is this a normal experience that occurs when mixing these substances? I'll read any replies/comments of any kind. This is new stuff for me, I never experienced this before.
Edit: What was weird about the toy hallucinations that I seen when I closed my eyes was that they were only toys that I had forgotten about; toys that I would not have remember during a normal state of mind, it's like the high only triggered "forgotten" memories. SO WEIRD!!!
Anyways, Cheers! Night everyone.
