That would depend on whether or not you believe anything exists outside of human experience... does anything exist until we name it? does anything happen if we dont see it?

Yeah, but haste fucked up by using "cut down" instead of "falls." Hence, the analogy itself implies human intervention and makes weather or not it makes a sound a little irrelevant ;)

I may have missed something. What is wrong with "whether"? (English was never my strong point in school, but I thought I had my weather, whether and wethers sorted out)

yes,the latest "weather" has a lot of people coming down with a cold and or flu.
