Ecogonine is a crystalline alkaloid obtained by the hydrolysis of cocaine. If a methoxy group is added to Ecogonine's 3rd carbon you will subsequently achieve 3 methoxy Ecgonine. I am not super-familiar with the pharmacokinetics of cocaine, but there are a number of different reasons as to why this variation was created - from achieving a greater affinity for the receptor site, to increased half life, to simply trying to make a similar enough compound that was not scheduled at the time.
At any rate, the compount is NOW sheduled... do I would'nt go cooking up a batch and trying to sell it as a "research chemical".
