So I have been waiting 8 years for this event. It's been 4 years since it's been a possibility and this past Wednesday it finally happened. I got to see Shpongle!
Simon Posford played a DJ set in Los Angeles about 2 hrs north of me, but OH was it so much more than the average DJ Set.
I took 22mgs 2ci at 9:30 and the opening act came on at 10:00. They played for 45 minutes and about halfway through their set I felt the initial effects of the 2ci. The lights above their head which was the color pallete of the basic colors you use to paint as a child in hexagonal lights became brighter and I suddenly felt like I was in some cheesy 80's club. This band played for about 45 minutes and was fun and happy but not particularly good.
Shpongle came on at 11 and at this point I was well into the 2ci Experience. He opened with my favorite song from the new album "I am you" and I could tell many in the club were familiar with this one as well. He had 3 screens behind him with a psychedelic backdrop and dancers dressed in flourescent tribal masks dance in front of him throughout the stage, with various different toys not dissimilar to the toys ravers in the U.S. bring to raves. There was also a painter on the side of the stage that painted a south american 'pharaoh' mask that became more intricate as the night wore on. I've take 2ci before and the visuals were not particularly detailed in the club this time, I've found this drugs visuals to really standout out outside during the day. I felt very spiritual and ecstastic though as Shpongle's techno tribal psychedelic trance meshed perfectly with the synthetic chemical mind trip of 2ci. The bass and low end of the music pulsated through me and the sound effects, guitars and upper tones of the music sent my mind spinning all around. I felt heavy and rooted a lot of the night and somewhat envious of the people who were clearly on Ecstasy or other stimulants dancing with complete ease. I really am glad I took 2ci over Ecstasy this night , I just didn't feel compelled or able to dance as much as some of the other clubbers for most of the night. Shpongle played most of my favorite songs and each song felt like a unique audio journey. He shortened and mixed some songs together in unique ways that kept this very uniqure from simply listening to them on record. The only song I truly broke out and danced to was "Star Shpongled Banner" which was in the latter half of his set. The dancers seemed perfectly in sync to the music and added a great ambiance to the night. I find 2ci somewhat disorienting and there was one blocked off entrance in the club that was open earlier in the night that I kept trying to go through. I find 2ci to be the most introspective of the 2c series that i've sampled and I kept on pondering throughout the night of what experiences led Simon to make such beautiful music as well as things about the company I was with. The crowd energy was great all night. I dropped a small dose of 4 meo pcp and after Shpongle came back for an encore it started to take effect. I found this light dose to be perfect for the end of the show as it brought me down a little bit from 2ci's stimulating effects and added a minor visual component.
After the club we headed back to the car and the colors were really pronounced. Yellows, reds and blues seemed to stick out the most. When we got in the car (we had a designated driver) I noticed the clouds outside and from the mix of these substances they seemed to produce after images which was pleasant and I got a really floaty feeling from the dissassociative, I think, that was not unpleasant yet fairly strange being in a car. I didn't feel out of my body but I had the impression of being behind the car looking in on all of us. Avatar was being played fairly loud to keep the driver awake and I felt immersed in the dialogue but did not pay much attention to the screen. I pondered things about how effectively movies speak to individuals and what effects they may have on us. We stopped off at a gas station and the gas attendant there who was clearly a lonely woman, kept asking me different questions to me and I think it was the drugs but her face took on a grotesque exaggerated look of too much lipstick and face powder or something. When we finally made it to the place to crash for the evening i felt about another hour of stimulation from the 2ci and out of it from the 4 meo pcp. I enjoy 2ci eventhough it's not as visually pleasing as some other psychedelics and has a weird sharp chemical feeling that makes for an awkward bodyload I find it to be pretty introspective and versatile.
