Durham teens treated after consuming mystery chemical

2CD is an illegal chemical substance that can cause a psychedelic reaction.

AJAX, Ont. — Durham region police are issuing a warning after three teens became ill -- one seriously -- while experimenting with a chemical compound purchased over the Internet.

While not mentioned in the article, I saw this on the news on TV. The one teen who was affected most apparently ingested 40mg of the substance.

I will believe that this was 2C-D only after a proper analysis is conducted.

That's not even a remotely high dose.

I really hate occurrences like this.

40 or 400mg? The article presents the 17-year old's state as "in intensive care after suffering seizures and vomiting after taking the drug." PiHKAL lists a range from 20-60mg and triple the suspected dosage as; "(with 150 mg) A truly remarkable psychedelic, one which could compare favorably with 2C-B. There are intense colors, and I feel that more would be too much."

I heard about this, and my reaction was the same as the others here...

I find it hard to believe this was 2C-D...I've never personally known anyone who took 2C-D but I've known lots who've experimented with other 2Cs (including myself) and nobody has had any kind of adverse reaction besides some nausea and an increased heart rate...

Not even mentioning that 2C-D is supposed to be one of the weaker 2Cs and 40mg isn't much of a dose :/.

I guess it's time to stock up on my RCs before they get banned.

Yes I am 100% sure that was what they said on the news, which leads me (and many of you it appears) to believe it was either not 2C-D, or a contaminated batch. Or perhaps this kid's body chemistry and 2C-D just don't mix. I read elsewhere that the chemical is being tested to determine what it actually is, but who knows if that information will ever be released. In any case, it should serve as a reminder to all of us that RCs are called RCs for a reason, and the risks involved are real.

2C-D is one of the gentlest chemicals around, I highly doubt a reasonable dose of 2C-D is to blame for their problems. That would be an exceedingly rare event.

2C-D is a great one. I definitely see why it's called "heavy tofu". It seems a lot "smarter" than most of the other 2C-Xs.

First off, how do we even know they had 2C-D to start with?
Secondly, how do we know they even know one of them even owned a scale (a proper one at that), let alone know how to operate one?

The title says the teens were hospitalized. Ya, for what? Were they hospitalized because ONE of them seizured of an absurdly inaccurate dose of an unknown (incorrect) compound?

I completely agree with what you all have said. Especially with the fact that this really sucks. 40 mg of 2c-d would not normally do that. Actually I think their are very few 2c-x phens that would be extremely harmful at that dose (at least when taken orally, although I know many will disagree with me on that one.) But from personal experience as well as in reference to shulgin's accounts I would say it was 2c- p or at least something other than -d

um, I think the inclusion of 2C-D in the article is an error because the news station used a stock image of 2C-D from erowid:

2C-D didn't put anyone in the hospital.
Some people put themselves in the hospital, either by taking too much of a research chemical or by not knowing what chemical(s) they were taking and taking a random amount.

The way the title of the article makes 2C-D into the villain is really, really annoying.
Drugs don't act by themselves.
This, kiddos, is propaganda being spread through language use.

I dont recall it being illict either, I've not seen it in the CDSA and its too vaguely related to call an analog of amphetamine. so the media fucks up again.

I was just about to say the same thing actually. I was like 2-cd is illegal since when?

But then again since when does the media in Canada ever check up on proper sources when it comes to drugs. They probably just called the RCMP and asked them if it was illegal 8)

Fuck :(

I love 2C-D.

This is really sad.

And i struggle how to imagine how anyone could do themselves in with it save a massive overdose ... I imagine that perhpas they are mistaken on what the drug in question is ... but the even sadder thing is that it doesn't matter

:(

does canada have any analogue act? This is an obvious positional isomer of DMA, which means it could be covered.

Hey couldn't erowid sue the news company for using their copyrighted material without consent?

If the photo was originally taken by erowid for erowid, then conceivably they could. Especially as the copyright notice from the bottom of the picture has been removed.

Also, upon looking into the original article on the CTV website, there is no textual credit to erowid for the image in question. Therefore they could possibly have left themselves in an actionable position.

^ I emailed erowid :D. I wanna start some big shit! I haven't done that since the middle school days when my best friend went and smoked a cig in the bathroom and they had the police come and do all this CSI shit, it was unreal. Oh wait, I had nothing to do with that.

Got a reply from Fire over at erowid (he sounds really nice :D)
I saw that they'd done that and contacted them to let them know they were
being annoying, but have received no response. :(
lol
