Last night I had a very profound experience with 2C-B, that left me utterly breathless, saying things like "Oh my god" and "thank you Sasha Shulgin" many times. =D So far my phenethylamine experience is limited to 2C-I, 2C-T-2, 2C-B, mescaline (San Pedro), DOC, MDA and MDMA and this was certainly one of the most amazing experiences I have had with any phenethylamine. It was extremely personal and deep in a way I never thought 2C-B could be.

First a little bit about the set and setting. I was going to see my favorite band, which I have already seen a few times but this was the first time the original line up toured together in 14 years. One of the previous concerts they actually stayed at the house my best friend and I shared at that time, so we were on fairly good terms with the band and knew it would be a great night. I have heard so many times that 2C-B is a very 'weak' psychedelic, with little to offer other than pure hedonism and recreation, but I decided to bring a little bit to see how it would work in this social setting.

Unfortunately the show had long sold out and we didn't have tickets, so my best friend went down to the venue and waited for the band to show up so they could put us on the guest list. Everything went according to plan, he met the band, hung out with them for a bit and got us on the list. I felt I had missed out a bit by not going with him, but I also didn't have to wait around for 4 hours, so I didn't mind much. He then came back to his apartment and I went there to 'chill' before the show. At this point I wasn't sure if I was going to take the 2C-B, but brought it anyway. I had two doses measured. One was between 14-16mg and was going to be for me, the other was 10-12mg in case my friend who had never tried 2C-B (but is experienced with mushrooms and LSD), decided he wanted it (or if I felt I needed a supplement dose later in the night . I had only tried 2C-B twice before, both times at 20mg and although it was enjoyable, I didn't see too much potential in the substance as a serious psychedelic, but felt it could be very nice in a concert setting. Before leaving, I (re)read everything I could find about 2C-B in combination with alcohol on Erowid and felt the combination carried little risk. I had taken 1.8mg of DOC for the first time two days prior (a low test dose) but tolerance did not seem to be a factor.

By the time the headlining band was ready to come on I had drank about 4-5 beer and was in a pretty good mood and took the 14-16mg capsule of 2C-B, I probably should have taken it slightly earlier in retrospect, but it worked out well. I also drank another 3-4 beer during the set. The show was great (including a guy proposing on stage), the venue was packed and the 'vibe' awesome. It wasn't until near the end of the set when the visuals started to kick in and it added a whole different elememt to the show. There wasn't too much in terms of psychedelic thoughts at this point and it felt much more like a lower dose MDMA experience. Very euphoric.

After the show, when the lights came up, I looked around and was absolutely stunned. All I could keep saying was "holy shit!" The visuals were amazing and mentally my thoughts were extremely lucid and penetrating. The whole experience was one of dealing with issues and lessons of 'ego' and things like 'hero worship' etc. The experience seemed to be fractalized and synchronistic on many levels. The 2C-B made this experience very meaningful, but on a different level than it could have otherwise been.

I was watching the band interact with the other fans after the show and felt I could understand what they must be feeling. I also saw a bit of the personally dynamics that were likely responsible for one of the founding members and songwriters leaving/being fired from the band 14 years ago. One of the main members was also a founding member of an equally influential group, that dissolved under similar circumstances. The battle for creative control, credit and difficulty in sharing the spotlight with someone else who is of equal talent etc. can be very difficult to deal with. We went back stage and hung out with the band, drank a bit and smoked weed. I was talking about Sasha Shulgin and 2C-B and comparing his prolific underground output of psychoactive compounds, with the bands prolific underground output of great songs among other things. It was great : ) I had a sense of openness that was a bit like MDMA, a bit like alcohol, but at the same time I was extremely lucid and I had a bit of sharpness provided by the psychedelic action of 2C-B. I felt an amazing appreciation for the band, but also Sasha Shulgin and the incredible work he has done to enhance the lives of so many.

I mostly talked to the other members while my best friend talked in depth with the main member who is the greatest musical inspiration for both of us and recognized by many as one of the most prolific indie musicians of his generation. I have talked with him in the past (as both a teary-eyed fanatic teenager and also extensively years later, when the band stayed at my house) but this time didn't really get a chance to connect with him too much. Rather than be upset or jealous, I let it be my friends moment, while at the same time just 'being in the moment' myself. This is one thing I find 2C-B really facilitates quite well. The ability '2 just Be'. I could also see many parallels between the relationships and ego dynamics between the band members and also my best friend and I who are also musicians, but haven't really collaborated in many years because our own egos and mutually admiration often get in the way. I sort of came to the realization, that if I were to put my ego aside and be willing to take more of a supporting role, we could really do some amazing things together. As we will likely be sharing an apartment again in a few months, this could really be a good opportunity to put these issues aside and I found 2C-B allowed me to realize this on many different levels at the same time.

I also got to see a whole aspect of what is involved in a concert from a very practical point of view. As someone that went to school for recording engineering and has a lot of studio experience (but very less experience with live sound, as I don't really enjoy it), I was able to learn quite a lot from the sound engineer who has decades of experience and has worked with countless amazing bands. For someone who had drank 6 or 7 beers and had taken 2C-B, I was able to be surprisingly helpful and felt it was a good learning experience.

When we were outside and the band was getting ready to leave, there were fire trucks right there and the roads were completely blocked. It turns out there had been a fire next to the venue and it was quite surreal, with the busiest street in the fifth largest city in North America, completely blocked and we were right in the center of it. Even though the cause was a fire, it felt very we were the cause and it seemed like a perfect synchronicity. The visuals from the fire trucks and all the cars backed up were astounding.

After the band drove off, we went back to my friends apartment, talked about the show, drank another beer, smoked more weed and went to sleep around 5 am. I woke up because I could hear my friend on the phone, looked at the clock, it was 11:11. I drank a coffee and had a bit of a hangover but other than that, I felt pretty good, with a nice afterglow.

2C-B has now become my concert 'drug' of choice. There are more concerts coming up and I plan to repeat the experience. Perhaps as early as tomorrow (another concert). I doubt this perfect combination of set and setting is repeatable, but I will certainly try. For those who have yet to find 2C-B's potential, I recommend a concert setting (assuming you can handle yourself) and for me, 2C-B seems to mix amazingly well with alcohol. The second time I tried 2C-B, I took 20mg and then drank two beers when the effects were in full swing (to test the synergy I had read about) and found the alcohol completely overtook 2C-B and the experience was really pointless and unrewarding. I think with this combination its much better to take the 2C-B after you have already had a few drinks, but are not completely drunk. Not everyone seems to react well with this combination and I normally don't ever combine alcohol with psychedelics (although some wine seems to go well with mushrooms), but many seem to find it favorable. Ethanols ability to raise dopamine and beta-endorphin (an endogenous opioi]d) among its other effects, seemed to bring 2C-B to a different level.

Here are a couple of quotes from the collected notes on '2C-Beer' on Erowid, which I can definitely relate to:

4 beers, solidly intoxicated, watching movies with lover. 14mg 2C-B during peak of intoxication. I enjoyed the transition which was very smooth and pleasant, unlike my normal coming up experiences. The alcohol space opened up into a more stimulated, positive, clear space. At T+4 of the 2C-B I slept soundly, which is unusual.

3rd time with 2C-B. 3 beers, hour later - Half Moclobemide, hour later - 20mg of 2cb, and about 1.5 grams of mushies while peaking on 2cb. At a Rave Felt completely euphoric, fantastic visuals. Sick moments of Hmmm, Ugh Oh, especially in the restroom :-). Rushing a lot, legs shaking (felt good), nice insights...one of the best times I have had in years.

I have to emphasize this combo as being absolutely fantastic. I've experienced nothing more psychedelic. Taking 15 mg after about 7 or 8 beers (about 3 litres) I found myself asking the same question over and over again (while feeling ecstasy like euphoria and experienceing an alice in wonderland state of mind):- WHY is this combination so damn amazing.

In the end I supposed that it must be that the alcohol takes the edge off the 2cb and slows it down a bit so you can actually examine that amazing state of mind. It felt like I was surfing waves of consciousness, but in a very mellow relaxed kind of way. The phenethylamine qualities I had always heard of with 2cb (but never felt) I REALLY felt this time. No paranoia, no fear... just pure psychedelic euphoria with visuals I didn't know were possible. I had trails that lasted for 6 seconds+ and morphing that had me rolling on the floor with laughter. The most beautiful part of the experience was the understanding of the "Cosmic joke." It was as if I was forced to see it in all its cynical beauty. There were also moments when complete telepathy were "just there." In a way I'd describe the experience as a "3-dimensional MDMA experience." And after it ended I just could not believe it.... 2cb and beer??? But I'm planning to repeat it again... Oh yeah... how about marketing a 2cb beer in countries where the substance is still legal? Seriously.... this would be a nice way for two opposite forces to come to ammends =) =) Heh.. Budweiser's Bee-beer.

I remember an interview with Shulgin where he stated (to paraphrase) that if any drug (he invented) could have as much impact on society as LSD and MDMA it would be 2C-B. On this night I totally understood what he was talking about, and agreed fully.

Thank you Sasha!!!! :)

Nice report! Its nice to hear an opinion about 2CB that connects it with being deep. I really do think it has the potential to be a profound substance.
