"EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. – What began as a drug-filled night for five teenage friends here has now led to a murder charge for one and the death of another from what appears to be an overdose.

On Wednesday, Polk County prosecutors charged Adam Taft Budge, an 18-year-old from East Grand Forks, with murder in the third degree, second-degree manslaughter, selling a controlled substance to a juvenile and selling a controlled substance.

Taft said he had meant to buy some marijuana when he went to visit his dealer a couple of weeks ago, but he ended up paying $100 for a white powder he thought was an extract of hallucinogenic mushrooms, according to the court complaint filed Wednesday.

Police say it was that white powder that killed his friend Elijah Stai, a 17-year-old from Park Rapids, Minn., six days ago.

Witnesses told police Stai was “shaking, growling, foaming at the mouth” and he “started to smash his head against the ground,” acting as if “possessed.”

Budge declared that it was just a “bad trip,” and he had seen it before. In fact, he had overdosed in April and had to be taken to Altru Hospital, the complaint said.

Stai ultimately passed out, never to wake again. He was taken off life support at 9:05 p.m. Friday at the same hospital.

If Budge is convicted of murder, the most serious charge, he could face up to 25 years in prison and a $40,000 fine..."

Research your shit like your life depended on it.

"Police recovered a small baggie containing chocolate from Stai’s pocket and Adam Budge gave police an empty baggie labeled “25iNBOMe,” which were sent to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. Forensic scientist Amy Granlund identified that the psychedelic substance was indeed “25i-NBMOe,” otherwise known as 2C-I."

Who the fuck would sell a bag of raw powder that is active at under a milligram? These reactions are completely predictable.

RIP.

Why did he think it was an extract of mushrooms if it said 25i Nbome on the bag? It sounds like he didn't even look it up which is really stupid and they probably eyeballed it. And the forensic scientist stated that 25i nbome is 2c-i? Come on

I don't understand the "selling a controlled substance" charges. 25I is not a controlled substance anywhere, correct?

It might be considered an analog of 2C-I which could create some problems, depending on local laws.

umm did anyone else catch that little bit of stupidity?

Hallucinogens. Any material, compound, mixture or preparation which
contains any quantity of the following substances, their analogs, salts,
isomers (whether optical, positional, or geometric), and salts of isomers, unless specifically
excepted or unless listed in another schedule, whenever the existence of the analogs, salts,
isomers, and salts of isomers is possible

That's a hell of a revision. The whole thing: they changed and added so much. And if 25I is considered an analog of 2C-I, even though they are structurally very different and have divergent pharmacologies, is there any RC that doesn't get caught in this net?

With the label on the baggie, you'd think you would google it before doing anything. I don't have much sympathy, they're all idiots. And the reason drug laws are getting tougher is because of people like this!

i wonder if they have a drug induced homicide charge up there?

i would assume that if a charge like that is available and the media doesnt fuck shit up too bad, he would probably serve like 2 years and be out before he is 21.

and it probably does. 2C-I is a precursor. There was a thread in ADD where this happened to someone.

Yeah, it wouldn't be of unheard of to find a sample with unreacted precursor from some random Chinese lab. These outfits aren't exactly known for their quality control.

I've totally read about that stuff. Same with 25B-NBOMe.

Whoever sold him the 25i is in big trouble as well. I don't think very many 18 year olds would have the balls to keep quiet while facing murder charges.

Because of the War on Drugs, which spreads propaganda and lies,
information is limited,
and because the War on Education has similar and related goals,
which can be seen in many areas other than drug education
(take the anti-Science, pro-Radical-Christian bias of textbooks of History and Biology in Texas)
and media has no reason not to sell,
and stirring up outrage "sells papers"
they join forces and conspire to give us this type of situation.

Lives lost and ruined.
Sad. :(

This is awful... who would sell a kid a super-potent drug like this as "mushroom extract" and not give any warning about dosage? I suppose it's possible, though, that the dealer made it clear and the kid ended up ignoring or forgetting the information.

To be fair, average dosages of 4-AcO-DMT are very conservative.

Knowing this, it would be reckless to not do your research first, especially considering a theoretical mushroom extract.

4-Acetoxy-DMT Dosages - Oral

Threshold
2.5 mg

Light
3 - 7 mg

Common
8 - 20 mg

Strong
25+ mg

I still agree with you though, if you are doling out a substance, you shouldn't do so if you are unable to identify it and give proper dosing instructions. This has happened with already scheduled, illegal drugs however. I have heard an unfortunate story a while ago about someone who fatally overdosed because the dealer IV'd an entire gram of powder heroin for their first experience. 8(

You could also consider ethanol poisoning...

There are approximately 79,000 deaths attributable to excessive alcohol use each year in the United States

I wish people wouldn't blame the drugs, but accept that possibly the war on drugs is ignoring the reality that some people will use drugs, and overdoses (even fatal ones) are a result of people's ignorance of the drug they are imbibing.

I often think about how people blame the drug for someone dying, and it draws a huge comparison in my mind to "guns don't kill people, people kill people".

This "18 year old kid" obviously ordered the shit off the internet then brought it around his friends and knowingly lied to them that it was "Magic Mushroom extract" to get them excited and so they would have obviously heard of mushrooms before... He was trying to be "cool" in the most unfortunate way...

I definitely agree with you, I wish people would never mis-represent a substance in this fashion.

do they mean 25I-NBOME (not 'NBMOe"), and is 25I-NBMOe the same as 2C-I??? or did thay just get themselves all mixzd up..

becausse i havn't heard of any reported cases of 2C-x alone (not combined with other stuff) not taling about the 2C-t-x which i know has caused some Od"s...

I OD'ed on 25C-NBOMe+2C-P+MXE.... pretty scary since ive heard all the stories of MXE and NBOME deaths

i'll definately not be taking any more NBOMe's, just stick to the 2C-x s, they havn't yet been bnned, shouldn't be long until they do though
