Is it normal to take 250mg of codeine and have nearly no effect at all, experienced way more with poppy tea. (both with an extremely low tolerance)

I was relaxed a small amount and a little warm but that's amount it. I also took 50mg Doxylamine Succinate 45mins before ingesting the codeine.
Any information on the matter will be greatly appreciated. :)

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I suppose the poppy tea must have made you more tolerant to codeine OR you got less of a buzz than with your poppy tea so it seemed like nothing happened compared to what you were expecting.
Although it's not as if anyone feels anything phenomenal from codeine, it's not particularly mind-blowing :)
First time I did codeine, with ~260 mg, I was nodding pretty hard but then again I was exhausted that day & lying in bed etc. so had those factors not been present I probably wouldn't have felt much more than a strong relaxation and warmth.

(by the way: I took codeine for the 3rd time today, last time was about 3 weeks ago, I took the same amount which was around 260mg but this time I felt muuuuch less...I was still sort of nodding but barely and way less powerfully, would anyone know how come? It's not possible for tolerance to build that fast, is it? :( )

P.S. Welcome to bluelight!

Thanks for the quick reply, sorry I should have said that the poppy tea and the codeine were taken over 9 months apart. Would you recommend doing any more than 250mg to feel something bigger OR just move on from this drug?

PS. Cheers!!

Oh okay, never mind about the tolerance then, heh :P
I think it's not uncommon for people to react very differently to codeine/opiates in general though, by which I mean some people have way stronger reactions than others. You might be in the latter category.

Well in the interest of harm reduction I would advise you not to push it with this one because yeah, if you were gonna feel anyting at all with codeine I think you'd've felt it with 250mg...also, I don't know how you're getting the codeine but very often people get a tylenol/codeine combination, and large doses of tylenol are actually extremely bad for your liver.
However, I've read that the risk for overdose for most people is around 800mg, although for some people it can be as low as 500mg so without a tolerance, you should avoid taking more than about 450mg.

With no tolerance I'll usually dose 300-390mg of codeine (but most people report decent effects at lower doses, and may find over 300mg uncomfortably nauseating or itchy due to histamine release) to feel effects, but even then they're pretty short-lived and mild. Many people find after experiencese with stronger opioids that codeine doesn't do a whole lot for them, even at higher doses.
