Football 2025-2026 NFL Discussion

I'm sure I could get into American football but can't fathom the rules .I never watched cricket for years but in the last 5 love it .most Europeans can't understand all the headgear and padding footballers wear compared to rugby ,I guess there is a reason

If you can watched compressed version of the game on youtube -- where they cut out all the commercials and BS, you may be able to do it. 3 hrs becomes 40 - 55 minutes.

That said it is kind of one notch above baseball in entertainment value. All that head gear and still all those concussions ... seems foolish but ppl seem to love it. WIth a couple drinks its not bad but its no hockey lol

Yeh concusion plays a big part in cricket,a 100 mph cricket ball crashing into a helmet can knock a player senseless, I've seen bats snap in half when a player goes for a boundary with a fast bowl

what's separating you from the league? @lost weekend
I can't make head nor tales of the rules.im guessing it's all about gaining yards and inventing plays in order to do this and that is the crux of the game obviously apart from the home runs and field goals .to many breaks in play makes me lose interest quickly

It's pretty violent, used to be worse with less strict rules.

People feel inclined to use their helmet as a weapon, and anyone with the ball basically can get hit as hard, from anywhere, at any time, from anyone.

Lots of concussions and injuries.

Traumatic brain injuries are real. Someone just killed themselves in the NFL a week ago and id bet head injury had to do at least somewhat.

I played full contact hockey until i was 27 and I never watch it.. idk.

Really? If you played surely you aren't one of those "I can't see the puck" or "I don't understand what's happening" people. The Russian 5 -- before Konstantinov got in the wreck. I have nothing better to describe poetry in motion.

The Miracle on ice game (not the Disney movie of course)

Shoot that series with the avalanche and redwings where it was just pure hatred, two goalie fights! (Vernon did it better)... Detroit painted the visitors bathroom right before the playoff game and they were all fckd up (Think that's the game claude lemieux got dude square in the back with a crosscheck)

Fair enough --- but you DO enjoy watching football? ( Subjectivity can be wild when you on the other side of it )

^This -- and that is why you watch the compressed version. FTR I think they stop play too much in hockey now too, don't love all the new rule changes. Liked the old blue crease where that was the goalies - stay out of it - however he leaves the crease he fair game as a mofo. I say let em two line pass if they can get away with it, makes for riskier play.

I was really worried that the "NJ trap" was going to make hockey unwatchable but it was defeated pretty quickly -- though still around today.

It was all the waiting and filler that got me disinterested in MLBaseball. Actually after the strike in 1993 is when I stopped having to watch. They came back from the strike and I didn't. But it can be painfully slow to watch.

Football is a lot cooler and more reflective of life. Quarters, half time, team plays, a group of humans acting as one, momentum within the group, it is much more teamwork. Baseball you have to be great on your own. That is all that matters. I guess when the shortstop throws the ball for a first base out it is teamwork. But not much.

Speaking of new NFL rules still waiting for an onside kick in like the first quarter. They made a desperate act even more desperate.

MLB seems to be all about the pitching now.

Batting averages are way down since I used to follow.

And the lighting and vibe of the stadium is so hype now but for what? Lol

Yeah, the notion all a team needs is a good pitcher further isolates the players and takes away teamwork. In football simply having a good QB is not enough, you need the other players in place.

True, and to build on that part of the fun of NFL is the cool stories. Where they came from, what they overcame, how the have team chemistry, ect

Also for baseball you can grab an undesirable from any country to play. In NFL these guys had to at least maintain good grades and come out of a college.

There must me yellow cards or red cards for dangerous play .surely you can't use your helmet to didlocate someone's shoulder

It can get pretty bad. Broken bones, knees going backwards, dislocations, last year someone even had a heart attack from getting hit so hard.

But you can absolutely hit your head into someone's shoulders unfortunately

I can understand the padding now.do the players argue with the ref alot .in rugby they except the decision like gentlemen
