2017 Trump Presidency Thread

it's interesting (i.e .disappointing) that, in his az rally, trump chose to revisit his charlottesville response but read an inaccurate version of his original comments which omitted the key phrase "on many sides".

you can't rewrite history in this day and age when everything is recorded.

^ Exactly.

As well known, there is this guy Jeffrey Lord, who is a Trump supporter. He would literally defend Trump no matter what was the discussion about. As you know he worked for CNN, and a lot of Trump's supporters are just like him. He would rationalize just about anything to defend Trump. I don't mean to insult anyone I simply saying that Trump's supporters are incapable to accept that Trump seems quite unfit for office IMHO.

As I understand it, the Judge was not from Mexico... why is Trump calling him Mexican? Is not attempting to smear someone based on ethnicity a racist thing? As a minority myself, I know it is for me. Once again, I will ask, how do you define racism?

Even though the judge was born in the USA, his parents were immigrants from Mexico and one would assume shares a strong bond to his parents' home. Trump was campaigning to build a wall on the border and suggested that there may be a conflict of interest with this guy's ruling. I'm not condoning his comments, I think they came from frustration with an allegedly unjust judicial system but they were still offensive and unnecessary. However a nationality is not a race so by definition that was not a racist comment.

Ummm- did you read what I wrote, or just choose what you could answer with randomness? I thought everything was Obama's fault, I suppose it is refreshing to hear things blamed on someone else. However, as with all the statements blaming Obama, I have to wonder why it is that someone feels the need to blanketly blame a person, group of people, etc. Why is it that you believe that I can get my news only from Clinton fake news? Are they so powerful that they can indeed influence 4-5 different random sources? What search engine do you use, maybe I need to change mine?

You're the one who went on an ad hom-disguised rant about 'alternative facts'. I can't tell people that they're full of shit but people can tell me I only believe alternative facts which is the same thing. Anyway the point is that there is bullshit flying around from everywhere. CNN gets a story right sometimes, and Trump gets shit right sometimes. I still read the mainstream media (to see what tricks they're up to) but it is important to be open to all sources of news (mainstream, independent, alternative). Then you know what everyone is saying, you can compare that to what you personally perceive and hopefully with a bit of common sense you will see how much bullshit the diarrheic mainstream spew out consistently (just my opinion).

I will never desire an outcome that is the result of shame! Especially not for a country that I believe I should be proud of being a part of!
I just found your comment ironic. No other country would look down on the US for enforcing illegal immigration. Japan recently deported a girl who was born in Japan because her Thai mother was working illegally at the time. No outrage though. America still allows more legal immigrants than all other countries combined (iirc)

How would you like it if Trump came to your house and just........ That is a link to the New York Times, where they transcribed a tape of Trump talking to another celebrity in regards to women, maybe Bill owns the New York Times?
Well the New York Times did hire a reporter that was sending stories to the Clinton campaign before publication (the Times is also now run by the guy who was running the BBC when they were covering for pedophiles).
One thing that annoys me about this forced outrage is that people act as if Trump made those comments publicly. That is how guys talk to their friends privately (slightly different context when you're a billionaire). The rational, non-prudish ones have heard it all before. Trump performed well with white women in the voting, shouldn't they have realized how unacceptably sexist Trump is? Especially when there was a woman running against him?

And why did Trump perform better than Romney with Latinos? He said all of that "racist" stuff against Mexicans & Hispanics while Romney said fuck-all. I guess those voters ultimately decided that Trump was not a racist and his policies aligned with their interests.

Niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, civil rights icon Dr. Alveda King praises President Trump’s response to Charlottesville.

you have your head in the sand. nice completely made up numbers. perhaps you should:
lol of course they were made up. However you are doing the exact same thing. When labeling Trump an "egregious liar" etc etc. You claim made-up degrees of dishonesty where you decide Trump is situated. I just gave my opinion with a more precise and somewhat educated estimate.

...one would assume...
instead of assuming, maybe you should:
Stick to the facts and assess those.

lol of course they were made up.
interesting. maybe you should:
Stick to the facts and assess those.

However you are doing the exact same thing.
no. no i'm not. there are many sources which track this kind of thing. i've posted them before but i won't bother reposting them as you'll simply ignore them as they do not confirm your view.

...somewhat educated estimate.
lol. ok. maybe you should:
Stick to the facts and assess those.

Well...
The buffet is certainly stocked today. However, I will just note two things for now:
1. drug_mentor typed "bullshit", which is stunning. Great post as always, d_m.
2. Someone seems to be more unhinged than usual!

why is trump campaigning?

for somebody who claims he's trying to unite the country, his rhetoric at the az rally was extremely divisive...

alasdair

What did he say at the AZ rally? That I didn't know he was having.

Good point, it's not normal for Pres. to be holding "rallies" half a year after taking office.

My theory? Besides the fact he's only in this for applause, is that he smells the end is nigh.

ETA double post:
It turns out Trump's buddy Russia is beginning to sour on him a bit, according to Foreign Policy.

They bring up an excellent point, that Russians really don't care for Nazis, what with losing 20 million citizens obliterating them. Russian media showed images of neo-nazis marching with overlays of the states Trump won. Not a good sign for Trump's future asylum dacha.

Scrof,

My personal favorite:
“We’ve ended the war on beautiful, clean coal,” Trump said of his first seven months in office, “and it’s just been announced that a second, brand-new coal mine, where they’re going to take out clean coal — meaning, they’re taking out coal. They’re going to clean it — is opening in the state of Pennsylvania, the second one.”

Six most jaw-dropping Trump said in Phoenix

A really good one:
Ben Carson, "thugs", and people leaving early while Trump relives the election highlights that ended 287 days ago

If you want, I can send you an article with the 57 most outrageous things he said.

^ he had a chance. he told us he was going to come to washington as an 'outsider' and 'drain the swamp'. except he filled his transition team and his cabinet and his white house staff with corporate insiders and the exact types of people he complained about.

he got a chance, really early on, to show that he was different and that what he said was what he would do. and he blew it. he fell at the very first hurdle.

On his first day in office, Trump broke 34 promises

By default, we had to give him one. And he's failed miserably. But afterwards, he can go live in a gold tower with a gold toilet where he pays people who just happen to be enraptured every time he relives the buildup to the one horrible term he had as President.

Apparently, the people who wanted to give him a chance aren't crazy about him either. He's losing ground with registered voters who are "self-identified Republicans". He doesn't have much ground left to lose with Independents, which is what I am. I hold a lot of views that are considered libertarian or conservative.

However, due to his reputation in NY, yes, I thought he would be bad in this role - admittedly not this bad. That being said, as long as that he doesn't start a war, he's still a better choice than Pence.

Pence is a weirdo who actually knows how government works and Paul Ryan would be VP. So until 2018 (thank you for Phoenix, Trump! Keep supporting Flake opponents just enough...) and 2020, just don't start a war, Trump!

See, I am pro- him, in a way sort of!

he also made an immediate repeal and replace of obamacare one of the central policies of his campaign. we all know what happened there. total lack of leadership on his part and dismal failure. another broken campaign promise.

alasdair

I am concerned about Trump, starting with Foreign Policy, Environmental important issues he's not following up. He could not start a war, but divide the country even more. Iam also worried about his temperament as it can be quite explosive, childish. That alone could be a problem when it comes to key moments he has to behave like a president. You saw what happened with NK, Venezuela and the comments he made about Charlottesville - all of that in less than one week. What happens next?

Any chances of his family becoming more interested in politics in the future?

^Once you have to have your father (or father-in-law) pardon you, it's fairly tough to get elected as dog catcher. I truly don't think any of them know or care about politics in terms of getting elected or public service. I do think they want influence, like all rich people.

-------------------------------------------------------
Will Trump will shut down the government if the Senate doesn't budget money for the border wall?

The Republican Party would be so damaged and a shutdown would be toxic for Trump. The only things that would be for Trump would be:
•to be declared incompetent due to diminished mental capacity,
•to be impeached and voted out and then dragged by several very, very strong people out of the Oval Office as he tries to desperately free himself and stay like a badly dressed flailing walrus,
•or to start WW III.

He's so lucky his supporters can't read, don't read, don't care, think the transcript of the call between him and the President of Mexico is Fake News, or don't understand what they're reading.

I'll let someone else bring this last one home if they so choose.
